After yesterday's game, Colton Gordons peripheral stats actually look extremely good. 3.16 xERA, 3.64 FIP, 3.28 xFIP. I certainly don't think he's that good, but he's pitched into some tough luck, at least in terms of quality of contact. Still a very small sample, so we'll see what scouting reports get out when it comes to attacking his fairly flimsy stuff. As of right now, he has an 8.33 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio, it's pretty hard to be an outright bad pitcher long term if you can maintain anything close to that.
He can still be traded, but I doubt its for anything other than cash or the longest of long shot prospects.
Forrest may still end up a very good pitcher in this league. But regardless, the Astros simply need to move on at this point. And I have full confidence they get the 2028 Corey Julks or Ryan Gusto for him
How many swinging? I watched his first 3 games and missed the last one. Lot of two strikes then 6 foul balls then ball in play. That isn’t good or sustainable for long term imo.
Royals May 14: all 3 looking Rays May 19: 5 swinging, 2 looking Mariners May 25: 3 looking, 1 swinging Rays May 31: 5 swinging, 1 looking Guardians June 6: 3 swinging, 2 looking
According to chat got (grain of salt) big league average is 75 swinging and 25 looking. Hes 13 swinging and 12 looking. I’d guess as the book gets out he won’t get that kind of numbers looking but we will see.
Spencer has to be close it has been more than 2 months.....the latest reports are that he is playing catch from 70ft, a mound is closer than that, hopefully he gets in a start or two in the minors soon, we need to shore up the bottom of our SP lineup. DD
Unfortunately until at least one of the established MLB starters return or Dana brings one in, he is needed for the rotation. He has to stay stretched out. Much of Walter's value (and Gordon's to a lesser extent) has been because he has faced teams that are LH heavy and struggle vs LHP. Tomorrow, they start 13 more games in a row and are likely to need all 3 rookies again, unless they decide to start Ullola's clock. Regardless, until the BOR is stabilized, they can't move any of them to the bullpen. They need to keep optioning them up and down as needed so they can keep starting.
Walter, Gusto, and Gordon are competing for who stays when Arrighetti is ready. So far Gusto is behind the other two. It's crazy how we went from an abundance of riches to being so thin at SP. Losing two starters to TJ almost right away, and Luis Garcia's repeated setbacks changed a lot in a hurry. One more SP injury and we might be screwed.
As long as Framber, Brown, and LMJ can stay healthy, I think we can survive. I would go to war in the playoffs with those 3 and whoever is pitching the best at the end of the season out of the remaining healthy pitchers. If Javier comes back strong, we would be in great shape.
