I don't think he would have been bad here

I was going hard for the Rockets to trade down on draft day and thinking Edey, Knecht, and Topic in that low lottery range. I think in that situation, taking Edey and basically have him as our backup 5 would be pretty good. And you pick up 1-2 extra 1st rounders for the future. Edey made no sense at #3 and still doesn't.

We’ve seen them play each other on the biggest stage in basketball….the NCAA Championship Game and Edey was clearly better. You can’t teach mammoth height and either one would not allow Vic to rollover and pound us for the next 10 years. Where did that poster come up with Ware>Edey???

Yes. I'm agreeing with you a lot lately.

Now who is greater between Ware or Edey.

I'm on record that the Edey types muscle their
way to good numbers vs regular season teams
and win MVP's.....but the Lively and Ware types
to help their teams get further in the playoffs.

As playoff teams have more decent 3-pt shooters
that can take advantage of those bigs playing
drop coverage by making the extra pass.
Thus running the big bigs off the court.

I said draft one or the other.....Edey would help
us get a top seeding because it takes two or
three players to get him away from the basket.
That gravity opens up people like Bari, Tari, Amen.

Neither Edey or Clingan even guards Wemby let alone stops him.

Both have faced Wemby 3 times. In those games, Edey has guarded Wemby for a total of 2:27. In his 3 games, Clingan has only guarded Wemby for a total of 3:08.

Wemby scored 11 points on 8 shots vs Edey and he scored 12 points on 8 shots vs Clingan.

Impressed that you came up with those interesting stats….always willing to see the other side. In fairness, I never thought that either Edey or Clingan would become a Wembly “stopper” in the first few months of their NBA careers. I always mentioned that it would they would be helpful in slowing him down over the next 10+ years because that is going to be a problem for the Rockets.

Not all that impressive when you realize that the NBA tracks and publishes those stats using the camera system above the court.

Here's every matchup for Edey this season:

This thread is still deeply funny to me nearly a year later

I doubt Edey will have a career as good as Steven Adams

Shaq, Wilt, Dikembe, Ilgauskas and I’m sure other 7’1+ players have had long careers. It might be more rare but it’s not quite never.

I’d still take him 10/10 times ocver the bust Sheppard. Edey was not a bust…that’s for sure!

Yeah it was pretty clear to most that Edey was going to be a bust. Kind of funny that some hyped him up so much.

Edey is ok but clearly overhyped by you. He will struggle to even be as good as Steven Adams.

However he also isnt a bust like some are claiming here dude was the starting center for the 8th seed as a rookie.

Steven Adams does so much more in High IQ in moving Big Players out of the way and getting Offensive Rebounds.

Reed Sheppard sucked, but Zach Edey is soft and was not impressive whatsoever

he’s just a plain piece of non-toasted, non-buttered white bread…nothing exciting, nothing you’re craving for

Stephen Adams is also a multi-year veteran that has had years to learn his trade. Not a big Edey fan and no way I would have drafted him, but comparing him to a vet like Adams is kind of silly. This forum is full of guys that discount young players in the same way, before they’ve really had a chance to grow.
