http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0410/29/lkl.01.html Here's an excerpt from a Larry King interview with Walter "I know more than you do" Cronkite. KING: OK, Walter. What do you make of this? CRONKITE: Well, I make it out to be initially the reaction that it’s a threat to us, that unless we make peace with him, in a sense, we can expect further attacks. He did not say that precisely, but it sounds like that when he says… KING: The warning. CRONKITE: What we just heard. So now the question is basically right now, how will this affect the election? And I have a feeling that it could tilt the election a bit. In fact, I’m a little inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing. The advantage to the Republican side is to get rid of, as a principal subject of the campaigns right now, get rid of the whole problem of the al Qaqaa explosive dump. Right now, that, the last couple of days, has, I think, upset the Republican campaign. Thats right. This clown actually thinks Karl Rove is working with Osama Bin Laden. Now I know the left's hatred of this guy, but do any of you on this board actually buy this for one minute?
Good lord that's just asinine on behalf of Cronkite. Rove put OBL up to it. These guys are bad, but they're not that bad.
I don't really agree with Cronkite, but Rove wouldn't be such a target if he hadn't already been GUILTY of planting a bug in his own office and then blaming it on an opposing candidate. If Robert Downey Jr. was was on a street corner and the police came by and found a bag of crack on the street next to him, would it really be surprising if people suspected Downey? Nothing has been proven about Rove, and he should be innocent until his been proven guilty, but that doesn't mean it is unreasonable for the idea to come up that he might have a hand in dirty politics.
I didn't say its not possible for Rove to be involved in some shady business...but the idea that he set up Osama Bin Laden to make this tape is just stupid to me.
I agree and find it very hard to believe that Karl Rove would be behind the Bin Laden tape myself. And it wasn't this particular response, but for almost anything that comes out whenever Rove's name is brought up as a possibility someone from the conservative side always scoffs at it as if it's impossible that St. Karl could be behind it.
True. I for one am glad this whole campaign is going to be over. I've got overload of both sides whining/complaining.
Those rumors about OBL being under US lock and key... it's actually Karl Rove's basement. That's where the video was shot. His perp walk is scheduled for Monday.
I think old age might finally be catching up to Cronkite. But the "Leftie answer to everything?" a bit of an overreach don't you think?
Look, if it weren't for 9/11....if it weren't for this BS war in Iraq in which we're killing Iraqi civilians and members of our own military, basically just to make a political point....would George W. Bush even stand a chance of reelection? No way in hell. I think the question should be, How long has that bin Laden tape been sitting on the shelf? Funny timing to come out the week before the election. If we can't produce bin Laden as the October surprise, better to scare everybody into voting for the dork who didn't keep us safe the first time around and started a diversionary war just so he could bag Saddam and step out of daddy's shadow.
ROX - They said he's referenced NUMEROUS RECENT events and that's how they've authenticated. Kinda hard to "have this on the shelf" wouldn't you say?
I disagree. Since this monumental thread was started I find myself with questions, questions, and more questions just piling up -- and I'm all out of answers.
Wait, some people don't believe the Bush Administration benefits with bin Laden playing the part of Perpetual Boogeyman? That's God-damn hilarious.
Terrible and completely ridiculous thread title... here are 10 that would be more descriptive and not insult half the D&D: 1- The Karl Rove scapegoat 2- Karl Rove is a target 3- Cronkite goes senile on CNN 4- Cronkite's dirty politics goes over the line 5- Cronkite plays the Rove card 6- CNN goes down the tubes 7- CNN - platform of absurdity 8- CNN - Democrat TV 9- How can Larry King put up with this? 10- Larry King is a tool
Not the only one around here. That's why I hardly ever start threads... I don't have to worry about the title. Keep D&D Civil!!
