I just wanted to remind you that people aren’t insulting you by dunking on Republicans. People are insulting you by dunking on you for being a disingenuous, intellectual dishonest, pathetic person.

Not sure on percentages but enough to where I think the primary situation is safe UNLESS it’s a third party situation where the anti democracy votes are split between the young incel dudes and the maga faithful.

I suspect that the Elon incel crowd though isn’t very reliable as a voting base and is loud online so the seem larger than they actually are.

So not sure about percentages but I think Trumps 75 to 85% hardcore maga base will carry the party in Trumps direction till he’s gone from this earth.

I think it hurts Trump and the GOP in general elections with the middle and with turnout but knowing these folks even if they lose healthcare, they social security, and go bankrupt there is almost nothing that will convince them it was Trumps fault.

I would actually think of it as more of a religion. It’s their identity and how they have shaped themselves as people. It’s their friends, their culture, and how they see the world. In a cult people often go deep quick and there is a moment of reckoning where they see the poison going in the cool aid and make a run for it.

With MAGA the poison is administered slowly and when bad things happen that directly impacts them you not only have Fox News etc magasplaining to them but you cannot underestimate the peer pressure these folks have in their friends and family circles.

Think I’m wrong, go to a church picnic (those are a big deal out in Texas Trump country) this weekend out in one of the small towns in between Houston and San Antonio like La Grange, and tell someone… anyone that you voted for Trump but now regret not voting for Kamala. Then report back here how the rest of the night went and how cordial people were to you there.

In Trump country, the peer pressure to be on team maga is insane. These people will not abandon who they are and how they identify in life.

You’re dunked on for defending Republicans who are demonstrably terrible. And for saying stupid **** like Democrats are no better than Republicans. Give me your top list of complaints about democrats and I will come back with a longer list of things more wrong with republicans. It won’t be close.

I don’t play team politics, but a dead, weekend at Bernie’s, Joe Biden would have been better than Trump because doing nothing is better than the destruction we are getting now.

I wouldn't think these church revival people amount to many of his voters. There is more people at your local Costco at any given time.

Dude, I live smack dab in the middle of the Hill Country, pure red flag-flying Trumpland. I've had the exact conversation you're talking about, but I learned early on that there's just no upside to talking politics in mixed company. So I don't.

As an aside, old-school buddy of mine from Houston came up for a large proper family/friends BBQ at the Blanco County ranch, and after a few hours and a few beers he says "dude, your family is a much higher class of redneck than I'm accustomed to". I told my uncle later and he said "that's the nicest thing anybody's said about me all week"

Of course, Rob's extended family was from Thibodaux, LA, so the bar was set pretty low.

I'm fascinated at just how frequently I'm reminded by Republican super-fans that projection runs the world. "Your team" multiple times in the post. Except I don't know a single left-leaning person in real life who is a Democrat fanboy. On the other side, I sure know lots of hardcore Republicans who make MAGA their whole personality. And that's in WI, which is about as purple as states get these days. I think MAGA folks (and people in general) really, sincerely, can't comprehend that not everyone thinks exactly like them. Every accusation Trump himself makes is a confession.

But speaking of the Democratic party... yeah, they sure do suck. They are their own brand of deeply stupid, and also cowardly. But I certainly held my nose and voted for them anyway, seeing as they're still the adults in the room by comparison. As opposed to Republicans, who are either enabling evil or are actively evil themselves these days... the last 4-5 months would be hilarious in a cartoon-villain kind of way if they weren't actually real. It's so clear and obvious at this point that hey, of course whataboutism is the last line of defense. It's all they have left. As you say: remarkably pathetic.

Texas is a red state mostly because of the voting power of having so many of these small towns that are significantly politically engaged.

Also in that part of Texas it’s mostly Catholics. The revival crowd is in the Houston, and Dallas suburbs. Also an important voting block for Texas but only due to the gerrymandering. Don’t believe me go look up Dan Crenshaw’s district.

I don’t post much but I do know you are on both knees for Trump. You defend him way way wasaaaay more than you criticize him. STFU with this trash you are posting.

Hey what did the Democrats do when it became apparent Biden wasn’t fit. That’s right they acted like adults and replaced him with another candidate. You can disagree with the pick or the process, but you can not say the didn’t take action or your both sides crap. One takes action with their leaders while the other turns a blind eye. But, yeah, both sides are equally bad.

Has it ever occurred to you that you may be on the wrong side here? A little self reflection might blow your world wide open.

I’ve read some White House insiders are saying it was Bessent who gave Musk the black eye. A 53 year old physically fighting a 62 year old outside the Oval Office is WILD!
