you put a lot of effort into the draft picks. I don’t know what really needs to go wear, but the core of the trade actually makes a lot of sense how is Garland’s defense?
Why don't you see Garland as a fit, out of curiosity? He seems to check a lot of boxes--young, very good 3P shooter, can run an offense.
not at the cost of all that draft capital and somebody is likely to pay that keep our powder dry for someone else better restack the draft shelves by trading away jalen and possibly bari or tari for future picks keep our salary cap down so we can sign guys stay loaded for something better
I guess I can see that It depends on the cost in terms of assets. Though I will say I would so much rather give up first round picks for a 25 year old point guard with his peak years ahead of him than a 37yo KD who will be out of the league in a year or two.
You did not ask me but... I think he would be a great fit, but this would most likely have to be a three-team trade, which drastically reduces the likelihood. I would imagine CLE would want a guard replacement for Garland that does not get hunted relentlessely on defense and is more complimentary to Mitchell. Do not think we can sell Jalen as that. I wish we could. A package around Jalen and additional value for Garland would be freaking amazing. He would pair perfectly with Amen.
Thank you for the effort on this. You have statistically confirmed my “eye-test” of Amen’s potential as an offensive engine for this team. I have contended all along that he is playing out of position and in order to realize his superstar potential he needs the ball in his hands. I am hoping the Rockets eye-test and statistical mining is telling them the same thing and they act accordingly.
I dont disagree, but they traded hali and fox and are staring down a very difficult off-season. IMO, they should completely blow it up but I understand if they dont want to go thru that again.
he didn’t make an all NBA team Had JJJ made an All-NBA team, he would have been eligible to sign a five-year extension worth up to $345.3 million this offseason. Since he didn’t, the Grizzlies can offer him no more than a four-year extension worth $146.8 millionunless they create cap space this summer to renegotiate his contract before offering him an extension.
Please go get this man. Let’s see if a Garland Green backcourt can unlock awesomeness. https://hoopshype.com/rumor/cavaliers-open-to-trading-darius-garland/
If they go complete rebuild then they will prioritize trading Sabonis, Lavine, DeRozen and Monk. Unfortunately for them, Monk is probably the only one with positive trade value. Ellis is young and had a bit of a breakout season last year. Doubt they look to move him even if they do blow it up.
Trade #1: HOU - PHX - BRK PHX: Cam Whitmore (HOU) + Nic Claxton (BRK) + #19 pick + 2027 PHX FRP (top 7 protected) (via HOU) PHX gains 2 youngish prospects (Cam + Claxton) to pair with Booker + Beal. Some control over their 2027 pick + #19 in the upcoming draft. Moreover, Suns move below the onerous aprons. BRK: FVV (HOU) + #10 pick Renounce Russell, Z. Williams, Melton Nets get the 2nd lottery pick they wanted. Can use FVV's now expiring contract to help acquire a player later in the year (Giannis?) HOU: KD (PHX) Renounce Bullock & Boban. Sure fire scoring from KD (when healthy) at the cost of FVV + future FRP Trade #2: CLE - BRK - HOU - BOS BRK: Brooks (HOU) + Okoro (CLE) + 2027 BRK FRP (via HOU) Gets control over 2027 pick at the cost of taking on contracts of Brooks into TPE + Okoro into NT-MLE plus some future draft capital. BOS: picks #26 + #27 + Landale (HOU) + 6 SRPs (3 from HOU + 3 from BRK) Celtics get under aprons at the cost of Jrue + Hauser. Use late FRPs to replenish depth. Cut Landale to improve savings / open up space CLE: Jrue Holiday (BOS) + A. Holiday (HOU) + NYK 2027 FRP (via BRK) (top 10 protected) Cavs also renounce T. Thompson. Cavs under aprons and replace Garland with more defensive oriented (& former champion) Jrue Holiday. Reuniting Holiday bros = good PR / marketing. Plus Cavs pickup future FRP as they are lacking. HOU: Garland (CLE) + Hauser (BOS) + 2027 PHI FRP (via BRK) Renounce Tate = still under aprons. Get a PG who fits timeline and allows Amen to slide over to SF. Hauser adds depth + more outside shooting and brings championship experience (plus played for Ime before = his new Brooks) Stone forces Ime to expand rotations while acquiring new talent. Re-sign Steven Adams for 2 years, $20M ($9M + $11M with PO on year 2) Rockets 10-man rotation Garland - R33D Thrilla - Hauser Amen - Tari KD - Bari - Uncle Jeff? Alpi - Adams Fill in the 11 - 15 spots with players like: PG Cameron Payne (NYK) G Tyus Jones (PHX) G Bones Hyland (MN) G Bruce Brown (NOP) G Malcolm Brogdon (WSH) G Tre Jones (CHI) G Tre Mann (CHA) prolly gets full MLE from somebody F Trey Lyles (SAC) F Bol Bol (PHX) FC Larry Nance Jr. (ATL) prolly gets a chunk of MLE from somebody FC Paul Reed (DET) C Willy Hermangomez (NOP) C Sandro Mamukelashvili (SAS) C Charles Bassey (SAS) C Thomas Bryant (IND)
First trade Houston gives up 2 premium picks and FVV for Durant which is an overpay 2nd trade Cleveland gets totally screwed for Garland who is way better than Jrue at this point in his career. I think the Rockets would be happy to give the Jalen and filler, plus a good pick #10 and maybe another Rocket frp and the Rockets wouldn't be the only one's bidding.
Meh... change the picks as needed. I agree about Cleveland, but IMHO they really need a vet player to put them over the top & get under aprons. This accomplished that. Possibly move some of the draft capital around to placate Cleveland.
If the Rockets for some reason decide to do FVV for KD or another guy who isn't a backcourt player--I think we should see what it would take to get Jose Alvarado. If it can be done for a collection of second round picks, or maybe just Cam Whitmore, I would definitely do it. I think Alvarado is basically a younger FVV, but we'll feel less obligated to give him a high usage role. He probably ends up playing around 25mpg and opening up on-ball reps for Amen at point guard, minutes for Reed, etc. Two possible structures--Cam Whitmore for Alvarado straight-up. (Maybe throw in one SRP to grease the wheels depending on how much they like Cam.) Or, Aaron Holiday + 2 second round picks.
That's just as an "extension". Once he becomes a free agent, Memphis can offer 30% of the cap (7 years of service in the league), just like everyone else but can offer an extra year and 8% raises where other teams are limited to 4 years and 5% raises - which will equate to 296m over 5 years Vs 219m over 4 The difference in AAV is 59.2m vs 54.85m favoring Memphis. Making one of those All NBA teams simply makes him eligible for the 35% supermax (which players can also earn with 10 years in the league), he'll get the 30% max with years of service.
