Maybe not. My premise is that it will take more than 14m if the Lakers are truly interested. An opportunity to start for the Lakers and playing with Lebron and Luka is worth millions to Adams in endorsements and in the personal satisfaction of starting. I don’t know Adams so maybe being a backup in a situation that has been kind to him rather than the chance of being a starter in LA is more important. I think he was/is a great addition to our team, but just like every other roster move has to be in the context of cap space and who do we want to retain. 14m may be good value, but if it effects our ability to retain Jabari or Tari that has to be weighed.
Lots of teams had a hard time dealing with the Adams/Sengun lineup, including Golden State and the Thunder. Go rewatch the games. The last Thunder game when we started Adams and we were blowing then out by 20 points. Hartenstein and Chet had ZERO answers for Adams. That’s why I feel like we had a good chance of beating the Thunder if we had gotten past GS. Even GS had problems with Adams but Ime just was horrible with coaching and rotations by not playing enough shooters like Jabari and Jeff Green.
Didn’t Pat Riley famously say “no rebounds, no rings?” Rebounding is the most important part of a defensive possession. Defense wins championships. Rebounds win championships.
Not only is rebounding a key to winning, but offensive rebounding, where Adams excels, is critical on this team. And on those championship games, we always had one of the best rebounders in the NBA who could go get one whenever he wanted.
I wish I could see him against the Pacers......but again the Pacers do excel without a banger like Adams.
