2019 was rough. Let's not talk about that. You know that was a fluke. Such is baseball though. I'm fine the Astros gifted Dusty with a WS win. I'm not going to call him a good manager
What about how Dusty didn’t start Chas till the 3rd game of the ‘23 season. He even started Julks in the 2nd game. He didn’t want anyone thinking Chas was his center fielder.
This is why those guys who just look at stats and say Chas should have played more are wrong. First of all, it assumes that a player's performance is consistent, like he's a robot. Not at all, players are human and they have different motivating factors. I have maintained consistently that Chas' lack of playing time was exactly why he was so productive, and that if he were a full-time player and got as much PT as most fans wanted, he would have sucked. Dusty knew how to motivate Chas. Now that Dusty is gone, look at him, he's a bonafide scrub. As for Maldy vs Diaz...sometimes managers make mistakes, but you can't even say that for sure. As Dusty said, Maldonado was the catcher while the Astors bullpen had the most dominant run ever in the 2022 Playoffs. In 2023, with the same pitchers, why would Dusty assume that they can't do it again? Why would he mess with the chemistry that has worked? Y'all think baseball is just a numbers game, but it's not. Guys have good stretches, they have bad stretches. Look at Diaz now...batting 232
Dusty, is this your CF account? Name me another player who plays better when he's given less playing time. Maldy was bad those years, the rotating crop of other CF in 2022 were bad, Julks sucked. Dusty had a rotation and bullpen in 2022 he couldn't possibly mismanage, and then his "genius" cost us a title in 2023.
Yes. But my real thought is of the Pot Roast seasoning bag with seasoning packet. It really mekes the best pot roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and celery if you have it. The bag is fully stuffed when I make it.
