Because the US hasn't had a major terrorist attack on our soil in 24 years, the UK in 19 years. When those were current events, they had a much more favorable view of Israel (despite the insistence in the international community that Israel had been a colonialist apartheid state since 1948 (or possibly 1967, depending on who you ask)). You will notice that the US is among the most pro-Israel, because even though it has been a while the older people among us still remember 9/11. It is pretty easy to do so.
