Ime holds the power ultimately. You don't hold a coach against his will. But this gives him a lot of leverage going forward either way. One might consider leaving if he feels like New York is bigger gig, or if he feels the team has reached its' peak potential. Both are plausible given we don't have a #1 option. Most coaches don't last 5 years anymore. Spolestra excluded.
That’s why coaches have assistants. Sullivan and Ivey have a lot of input on how the Rockets play offensively. It’s a collaboration not just one man creating schemes and sets for the team.
Well then they are all really bad at it or the coach rejects the collaboration and just tells FVV to do his thing. In the end, the buck stops at Ime. Stone needs to give him a better balanced roster and then if he and his staff can’t produce a decent offense then they should look for coaches that can. If Stone sits on his hands and the team performs similar to last year, then Stone needs to be replaced.
Gross overreaction to a team that is ahead of schedule. In fact, we are so far ahead of schedule that you’re punishing Ime and Stone for it. To suggest that either are at risk of losing their jobs, or should be, after this season is ridiculous.
According to Stone’s own plan we are on schedule not ahead of it. He has his core and the assets to acquire meaningful players. He said what he was going to do from the start and I have applauded him for executing on the plan. Are we still ahead of schedule, if we drop back in the standings and either miss the playoffs or get beat in the first round again? This is the off-season that Stone needs to prove himself. NBA windows close quickly and the window got considerably shorter when the NBA engineered the Doncic trade and the SA drafts. OKC wasn’t satisfied winning the West last year and took a couple of pretty big swings. Why shouldn’t the Rockets from the second seed? Patience can be virtue, but hesitancy can derail progress.
The Knicks are going to wish they had kept Thibs. He didn't have a lot of depth - he was given an entirely new player KAT right on the eve of the season. People don't realize how incredibly hard it is to cover the defensive short comings of both KAT and Brunson. Those guys are terrible defensively. Covering for one is doable, but scheming for two? Good luck to the future coach. The reason the Knicks lost isn't because of coaching - it is those two on defense. Thibs isn't perfect - but he is good, and unless they pull a rabbit out of their hat, they are getting a down grade at head coach.
I agree. I'm not a fan of Thibs short rotations through an entire season, but it's not going to be easy to replace him and have the same success.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...thibodeau-their-most-successful-coach-decades Thibs got outcoached..... Ime got outcoached..... Hopefully there is a lesson to learn here. DD
Udoka and his staff thought the best way to play with this roster we have is to run the offense thru Sengun. We have seen some success with this and we have seen some failures. The staff has worked with what they have. But moving forward decisions need to be made with this roster and offensive style they want to play.
