Exactly. We're upset that a 10-year veteran is getting to keep a relatively small (by NFL standards) signing bonus because....... we're all concerned Cal McNair might have to miss a utilities payment at his (I'm guessing) 32-room mansion? I mean, what is the issue? I 100% support a player - in any sport - squeezing as much change as they can while they can.
And even with Mr. cough-cough... he's not the bad guy for accepting the contract - the Browns are for offering it. He did what literally every one of us would've done, which is sign the contract as quickly as humanly possible.
You're equating a player being paid per the terms of his collectively-bargained contract to... shoplifting?
You keep leaving out that the team can go after the signing bonus if they choose to, since he hasn’t played a single game nor made it to even training camp. It isn’t guaranteed. He signed a contract with no intent on playing, that is stealing.
Where are todays updates on who juked air the best and who hit the tackling dummy the hardest? I need them......
I did not leave it out: Ronald Darby has made in excess of $47M playing football. To suggest he signed a contract for the express purposes of pocketing ~$300K is preposterous. I would never pretend to know what is going on in someone else's life. Why do you feel so comfortable doing so? I'll say it again: I don't understand why we are so quick and willing to villainize the athlete/worker who is operating within the rules and guidelines of his occupation.
June 10th and 11th. After that it’s a wrap til training camp. Will be a boring ass 6 weeks unless the rockets make some major moves.
Because it’s stealing. If you deliberately go into a contract knowing full well you aren’t going to uphold your part thats wrong.
Where in the world did he say this??!? I know nothing about Ronald Darby - but if he was hurt, the decision could have come after rest and/or rehabilitation did not go as planned. Or, perhaps, as a 31-year old, his body didn't respond to whatever he normally does to get ready for a season. Or maybe he received unexpected medical advice. Or something changed in his personal life. There are far more plausible possibilities than, He's a thief. But the why doesn't matter, regardless. His contract is guaranteed, as it was collectively bargained. If the Texans believe he acted in bad faith, they'll almost certainly pursue repayment. Have they? Again, you're villainizing the employee, who has done nothing that violates the terms and conditions of his contract. And to assume - with certainty - that a multi-millionaire you've never met and know zero about is scamming for, what would be pennies against his net worth, says a lot more about you, honestly.
All you’re saying is but, but, but. Facts are, he signed a contract and did not fulfill even a portion of it. I don’t think you understand what guaranteed means, if the Texans go after the signing bonus portion that was paid-like they’re entitled to due to an early retirement, then it is not guaranteed. Collectively bargained takes two sides. The Texans should go after the bonus, but more than likely won’t. Additionally, do you understand that net worth and career earnings are two different things? 300k is not a drop in the bucket to Darby, at all. Regardless, no one is attacking Darby the person. The act itself seems like stealing. Wrong is wrong. You’re defending a dude that just took 300k from someone for doing nothing. As it stands, I have met Darby. Numerous times actually, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy. This is about the act. Same for the two centers that just retired in Detroit and New England.
Are yall really worried about CJ not throwing at OTAs? We just saw the dude shooting 3s at some UH event.
I think Houston fans are conditioned to expect the worst. But if it’s tendinitis, I would have worries long term.
lol Chris Simms: This has "all the signs, to me," of tendinitis. His list of "all the signs" starts and ends with 'general soreness' Based on that, nobody should be taking what he said seriously
