Why are the Rockets persistent on bringing FVV back?

FVV was a "necessary evil" / "necessary step" in this stage of the rebuild and it ultimately revealed we still didn't have a player(s) who were capable of running the offense consistently. I am certainly okay with moving on from FVV but the answer may not be on the current roster for 2025.

Because amen is not a point guard and Reed isn’t ready. We went on a 6 game losing streak the moment he hurt his ankle. We can start weening the team off his stable leadership but we aren’t ready to ditch him. If you lose him, you need to find a similar, low turnover, veteran leader to replace what he brings to the team. These are the things that can’t be measured, but you know who sees it and recognizes it every single day?

Ime and the rockets organization. Hence why the are persistent on keeping him.

Can be up for interpreation, but I don't think he's as bad as some of you guys make him out to be. Ime, Clutch, don't think so at least. In the two years FVV been here, team went to a .500 and #2 seed, His shooting also kept GSW from sweeping the Rockets.

Putting aside, if people here like or dislike, what would be an actual % of him returning to the squad next season. I don't think it's 90%, but I'd put it above 50%.

    They should move him on.

Our season was good, not great, we have players that will be better than him soon with playing time.

And we are still continuing to develop our young core with FVV and Brooks, it just left some posters wanting those minutes to go Reed and Cam. I think FVV and Brooks were the right type of move for the stage we were at.

I also don't want Amen over Jabari, I want Amen over Dillon Brooks..... and it doesn't matter what position you technically say a player is at is roles that really matter.

So if you want to call Amen the PG, fine... but you still have to have someone else play that role and you can call them whatever you like.

Fred was very important to the team both in the regular season and playoffs. He's not worth $44 million, so it depends what he asks for. Fred was an all star at Toronto and made 22 million a year, he's now 30, not an all star, so the market value and a fair deal needs to be gaged again.

But numbers are numbers, we did hover around .500 without him this year regardless of schedule, those games and record still counted. He was also arguably our second most impactful player in the playoffs, with big games that got us wins to extended it to 7. We needed a lead scorer and were missing it as was consensus.

High assist to turnover ratio is always a great thing for a PG, good defense is good for all positions, especially a team leader. Those historically always help contribute to winning.

Hopefully we can find a fair price and length, as you need someone better than him if you're going to replace him. Unless he get's greedy then it is what it is, but I hope not.

And yes, Amen was a PG his whole life and it'a a testament to his IQ he switched to forward at times at the NBA level. He can play PG and did play four positions last year. Although Fred was still the best at running the offense as of last season. Reed, although he wasn't good enough last year, did improve after his G League time later in the season and I hope he fulfills his potential as well.

Fred's contract was always designed to coincide with the extensions of Sengun and Green. Whatever those extensions ended up being, they could opt out of Fred's deal and extend him at a rate that accommodates the new higher salaries. If Fred is unwilling to sign at a figure that allows the team to fill out the roster using the MLE or any exceptions, then the team has got to pick up his option and trade him for multiple players that fit under the luxury tax. And if they do agree to an extension with him, it now needs to be at a figure that will accommodate extensions beginning next year for Jabari and/or Tari. Fred got his money from the Rockets up front. Now, it's time for him to sign, either here or elsewhere, at something closer to market value. Right now, that appears to be around $15M per year.

No we did not go 5-6 during that stretch. We only recovered a lot of our wins because we ended playing a bunch of completely garbage teams like the pelicans. I remember this forum complaining about how Amen is not a "point guard" and how his turnovers were costing this team. Stop with the recency bias.

We just ended up playing a bunch of super weak teams like the pelicans and the raptors. We weren't able to win games against any of the decent teams in the league. Amen is still raw and his turnovers were a huge problem for us when he was running point. Jalen was so useless that the warriors literally started doubling Fred on pick and rolls to force Jalen to handle the ball. Also Amen isn't able to shoot consistently yet so teams will just sag off of him like westbrook.

Im not saying we pay Fred 40 million + a year but anything around 20-30 million is completely reasonable. Isaiah hartenstein is getting paid around that much in the new NBA.

Fred missed from FEB. 3 thru FEB 26. During that time the Rockets went 5-6. FVV came back the next game and the Rockets lost 3 games in a row. Look it up.

We then went on a 9 game winning streak. Its completely normal to expect Fred to have some lag coming back from a month of off time. He was obviously playing poorly his first games back because he has to get accustomed to NBA speed.

The only reason we didn't win even more games is because Ime decided to rest players before the playoffs.

Sorry I didn’t see the acknowledgment that you were wrong about the record. That’s ok, don’t let facts get in your way of a good argument.

Fred has become the Martin Maldonado of the Rockets :D

    “We must start him!”
    “Our pitchers like him!”
“His value doesn’t show up in the box score!”
    “His leadership!”
“If we don’t keep him, our pitchers will forget how to pitch and won’t be as good!”

    Shai
    Curry
    Luka
    Kyrie
    Harden
    Murray
    Morant
    Fox
    VanVleet
    Conley
Tyus Jones (fan favorite around here; Jones, Booker, Durant, Bol Bol, LOL what are we even doing?)
    Collier/George
And a few guys masquerading as PGs: Simons, LaVine, McCollum

The GM loves his first rebuild pick
The HC loves his “steady” PG
    Run the same **** back

My wife is. Even in engineering, the classic Project Management triangle still applies. You have to make trade-offs. Pick two: Quality, Time, or Cost. You can't do all three well.

In civil engineering, if you want to build a bridge, most would prioritize quality. So pick one of the other two. So do you want it fast? Better be prepared to hire a ton of people and only hire the best.

When they signed FVV, clearly the top factors were quality and time.
High quality / Want it fast: Trade for a vet or entice a FA on the open market. (Get ready to pay, enter FVV)
Want it fast / Low price: Pick up a journeyman
High quality / Low price: Draft a PG (will take a few years to develop)

    Life is about making compromises.

It's pretty obvious isn't it? Stone is in sync with Ime Udoka and Fred is one of Ime's favorite players.
