Reminds us of a someone that also has zero offensive gameplan plays a super short rotation isn't willing to adapt wants to defense his way to a ring while not being able to get a bucket (LOL) I'm actually surprised the knicks saw the writing on the wall. Hopefully the rockets will too. Ime has next season to adapt, if not he can GTFO
Not in this current era. As teams play faster, playing short rotations is going to run down teams pretty quickly especially when it's the same set of guys over and over again during the regular season. Most championship teams in the past that play short rotations have made adjustments but Thibs just don't want to try looking for that spark off the bench
The Celtics went with basically an 8, sometimes 7 man rotation in the ECFs & Finals last year, they basically played their starters, Pritchard, Hauser, and Porzingis if he was healthy, somebody else if he wasn't. Granted they went through a fairly easy playoff run beforehand.
When the Knicks were up by ~36 points midway in the 4th quarter of game 6 against the Celtics and the starters were still on the floor, I thought Thibs was mental. I wonder if that was the straw that broke the camel's back. This firing surprises me. Their roster has depth and defensive issues that cannot be blamed on coaching. I'm very curious to see what they do in free agency and the trade market.
Greg Ostertag, Rick Fox, Mark Jackson, the guy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dwayne Schintzius, and John Salley. This team should've won a championship.
Didn't want to turn into defense discussion. Not all defense are created equal. Not saying our is better or worse, but more variety. Ime (like Mazulla) uses lot of mismatches, and last year, Rockets had share of zone. Tibs might have other ideas and drills and things we can use. Tibs will still be cashing his check from Dolan, so Tilman might even be able to get him on the cheap. More of a pie in the sky thought, as I'm not sure he'll take an assistant gig. Honestly, any young head coach in the league can learn a thing or two from Thibs. ...and yes Team needs more offense too
Seems like highly emotional decision to make - top players (some of them very emotional), owner (also very emotional) in meetings that happen right after a very painful loss. I wonder if they think that lowly Pacers & OKC don't deserve to be in the Finals - NY is full of entitled people. With the long vs short rotations. Denver's new coach right after being named made an emphasis on better conditioning, so it seems like he is ok with the short rotations & it's not really the reason coaches are getting fired. definitely smells of scapegoat'ism. when your team has established names, you only have so much leeway as a coach. a lot of egos. And when Pacers come to town, no leeway at all as @pacertom says - definitely seems the case.
Some of these fake videos get kind of old. But I got to say this one is hilarious, especially what he says about KAT.
Maybe this firing will wake Ime up. You have to coach both sides of the ball to win championships. Stubbornness and an unwillingness to recognize your own weaknesses ultimately leads to failure.
What is so special about Jason Kidd as a HC? Who looks at him and thinks he’s the guy who would take the Knicks over the top? What evidence is there that he’s any better than Thibs or even on his level? I don’t understand these organizations sometimes all they do is recycle the same retreads
