I still can't believe the max is considered a lot of money for an NBA player. Seriously, a lot of players making the max are really only getting a fraction of what they would get pre - CBA. Yet guys like Beltran would be looking at atleast 15 per next year.

Amen, this is so ridiculous. Take the money you idiot, it's a boatload of cash that will continue to get bigger and you're holding out for what would amount to a few dollars? My god.

I have a hard time believing that the dispute over four million dollars is the problem to cause the negotiation to stop. A few million dollars distributed over six years is pocket money in NBA terms.

I think that the true reason for the negotiation to fall apart is simple: let's just say that Tony Parker is not a big fan of Gregg Popovich's.

If the Nets go through with the deal to dump Kidd in return for expiring contracts, I would not be surprised if the Nets have contacted the agent for Tony Parker even though it is illegal. Nets are looking to go young, and Tony was drafted in the same draft as Richard Jefferson.

Hey if idiots like boozer are getting that much, why not give it to parker. Relatively, i think parker should be paid more than boozer.

If he's willing to accept $66 million, then the difference of $2 million divided over 6 years, averages out to $333,333.33 per year.

Okay, I get it now. He's secretly got a crush on Francis. Someone needs to tell him that Francis is a dude. Those silly Frenchmen. :D

Eh I'd be happy with the the 4 million dollar difference their fighting over. Gimme that kinda cash and I'd make sure myself and hopefully future family and kids would be set for life. I have no sympathy for any NBA players like that, ala Eddie Griffin. When you're in an overpriced market like in the 4 major sports in america you should have no reason to complain about the kind of money you make.

parker should have taken the money. players are so replaceable these days, i mean damn, devin harris has got the starting job for the opener against jason terry - look at the difference in contracts there.

spurs could easily get a replacement who does the job just as good as parker does - parker has relied on duncan and a couple nice playoff series' to think he deserves the max...when he clearly doesn't.

only top players deserve top contracts...baron/AI/jkidd/and marbs maybe at the point. could argue for Francis and maybe 1 or 2 others as well...the rest, well, are replaceable.

Supposedly Parker and the Spurs have reached an agreement...6 years at $11 million per year. Not official yet, though.

if they settled at 66 then that's pathetically hilarious. i won't budge from 64. neither will i from 68. 2 days later: so umm, is everyone good with 66? yeah, ok.

SAN ANTONIO -- Point guard Tony Parker agreed to a long-term contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.

Parker received a six-year, $66 million extension, a source close to the negotiations told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

San Antonio has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Frenchman, who averaged 14.6 points and a career-high 5.5 assists last season, rejected a $64 million offer last week. He told French sports daily L'Equipe he was "proud and happy" about the deal.

Parker, a three-year veteran, has averaged 13.1 points and 5.0 assists in 234 career games -- starting all but five of those games -- and helped lead the Spurs to the NBA championship in 2002-03.

The deal will make Parker (at 8.6 million euros per year) the best-paid French sportsman, according to L'Equipe. Soccer star Zinedine Zidane makes 6.4 million euros a year with Real Madrid.

I mean players who scoff at multi million dollar contracts and risk throwing their life away. Griffin didn't even get himself that far because he's a headcase.
