Why are the Rockets persistent on bringing FVV back?

I have always said that Amen should be the Rockets starting PG. He was drafted to be a PG, he said he LOVES the PG position the most, his height and length are most effective when he is in the backcourt. He just made the NBA All Defensive team and he is a rising Super Star.

When trade talks are brought up by other team's fan bases the first player they mention is Amen! Sure he needs to work on his handles more and his outside shot but he can get to the rim at will and he is consistent up to 15ft out.

ITS TIME FOR AMEN TO GET THE BALL!

    PG - Amen
    SG - Jalen
    SF - Brooks
    PF - Jabari
    C - Sengun

Houston is expected to bring guard Fred VanVleet back, according to both team and league sources, either by picking up his $44.9 million team option for the 2025-26 season or negotiating a new deal at a lower, team-friendly salary. The likelihood VanVleet plays for a different team next season is slim, those sources said.

I don't agree with Jackson much but this time he is right! Amen is our future star.

    Everyone loves Ime.

Amen is the Rockets future 1 starting now.

    Ime don't play that.

The only way the Rockets pick-up Fred's team option is to trade for a star
Otherwise he's coming back probably closer to Dillon's salary on a longer term

    Amen isn't a guard.

Amen is not a PG, he is a Point Forward, but you put him with the ball and have Reed as the PG outside 3pt shooter and ancillary ball handler and this team takes off.

    FVV is in the way.

Does anyone think Amen could be Shai like with his size if we push and develop for it?

Leave well enough alone and let Amen continue to thrive as a wing. Reed’s supposed to be our future PG. Extend Fred while letting Reed continue to be his backup. Hopefully a year or two from now Reed will be ready to be lead PG and we can trade Fred to another team in need of a PG for a nice return.

Nope, completely different type of player. Shai is a shooting savant, Amen is an athletic monster, there's almost zero comparison in their games.

The likelihood of him playing elsewhere is slim because there is no money available. Teams can offer the MLE or he can sign with the Rockets for $20M a year.

Nope, he can't be Shaq like either.

He's in no way similar to those players.

A better possible comparison is like a Kahwi-Jimmy Butler hybrid as a ceiling

You people just don’t get it. He’ll be back for 40-45 million a year. He’s not 37 years old and is a key player to Udoka. He has not lost any value since he was signed why would he and his agent take a paycut. If you want FVV back then accept it will cost 40+.

Fred's value to the org is in quarterbacking the offense and defense because the young guys don't have enough experience thinking through the game in the way Fred does. He knows where everyone should be, what the bad matchups are, and is able to see through other team's sets. His personal on court performance has declined the last few years - but there is still very real value he still brings to every lineup he is in.

I would still like him with the team on a much lower financial figure, but I would like to see us cut his minutes down year over year and start to force his teammates to do what he does so we aren't using him as a crutch....but I think he still has tremendous value "helping" our young guys be in the right spots and telling them how to play screens as an on court coach. This is the type of stuff you get from vets that take 6/7 years for young players to develop.

The only way around that is get a better version of Fred(and spend a lot of money) OR break up our young guys to have a better mix of vets and younger players but him and DB and Adams are good in game managers when they might be playing next 3 or 4 other guys with less than 5 years of experience.

If Reed panned out year 1, they wouldn’t have to.
