One man taught us how to overcome obstacles and win. The other taught us how to get down and boogie.

Stallone had the single best performance and had more influence on pop culture for boys, but Travolta had more overall acting talent and influence on girls. Stallone wins.

Stallone also wrote (Oscar for Rocky) and directed films (including Staying Alive). But overall it's a tie. And the tiebreaker is Frank Stallone. Sylvester wins.

Rocky is one of the most motivational movies ever. Grease is ok.

Rocky was a great Movie, but Travolta was more versatile, from Urban Cowboy to Grease to Face Off......................Stallone was awesome but played the same guy in every movie, IMO Travolta influenced more because he had a broader spectrum of characters..............but the Scientology movie was probably the worst film ever followed by that catastrophe with Stallone and Dolly Parton

Came here to post this. Rocky was one of the greatest franchises ever. But it was so good that any movie I see Stallone in, I still see Rocky. Travolta was definitely more versatile and an underrated actor, frankly. Any actor that could pull off a New York disco dancer and a Texas cowboy and do both SO convincingly has got to have some serious acting chops.

    Stallone
    1. Rocky
    2. Action Hero
    Travolta
    1. Italian New Yorker disco dancer
    2. Texas Cowboy
    3. 50's era greaser
    4. cool, philosophical hitman
Full disclosure: Urban Cowboy is one of my all time favorite movies that I can basically recite from beginning to end.

    Travolta.

Disco was dying but Saturday Night Fever made it popular again and gave it a 2nd life. Discotheques became full again as people flocked to them.

Urban Cowboy ushered in a renewed interest in country music and pop-cowboy culture - even in the north, western bars became a fad. Even Bosom Buddies, set in NYC, showed the main characters visiting country bars due to their sudden popularity.

Pulp Fiction (along with Clerks) helped spur the indie film revolution of the 90's.

The real tie breaker is longevity, Stallone wins. Travolta fell off a cliff in the latter years.

So ironic that everyone in Texas was trying to mimic Bud when the actor who played him was an Italian from New York.

Don't forget Grease, which is probably the most iconic movie musical of all time.

    Same exact take for me.

Stallone wrote and starred in perhaps the most iconic piece of masculine cinema of all time.

Rocky is a true American masterpiece, and Rambo is a part of the cultural lexicon/meme that may well live forever.

Travolta was a heartthrob and a great actor but he just occupied spaces in popular culture that anyone else could have. Stallone made the space itself.

Travolta's star may have shown brighter, but people will remember Stallone longer, IMO.

Being that I do not like Saturday Night Fever, Urban Cowboy or Grease at all (do love him in Pulp Fiction/Get Shorty, and Welcome Back, Kotter was fun), the choice for me is pretty easy.

As far as "cultural influence", it's still Stallone.
