So I am thinking someone has to be sent down today unless I missed something. (very possible, haven't slept in a couple of days) Who goes? I'm guessing the odds are Salazar 50%, Dubon 15%, Whitcomb 10%, Dezenzo 10%, Rodgers released 15%.
I'm not in the mood to do math (like basic counting), but what's the 40-man at? I know they can move Blanco to the 60 and free up a spot
Could be Trammel going on the 60 as well. I think he tore up his knee in ST. Blanco is the obvious one though.
Spoiler: Snake Diggit's Astros Top 30 Prospects: May 2025 Update Rank Position Name Grade Previous Rank Notes OF Jacob Melton 50+ (4): Stock up as once he got healthy he looked extremely good in AAA. He will fall somewhere between Derek Fisher and George Springer in terms of big league value. 2B Brice Matthews 50+ (2): Showed improvement in May. He may not be the elite prospect who usurps the everyday 2B job in the first half of the season, but he's a really good, high upside prospect who just needs more time. P Miguel Ullola 50+ (7): I'm buying in. Best fastball of any player in Houston's system outside of Hunter Brown. Still young enough to get the walks under control. Could probably strike big league hitters out now if he had to. C Walker Janek 50 (6): .284/.357/.446 line in May was very good. P Anderson Brito 50 (13): very healthy k rate in a hitters' league he is very young for. Stock up and could explode if he gets promoted to AA. P Ethan Pecko 50 (5): TBD as he just got healthy but could get a lot of hype if he has a string of good starts in AA. P AJ Blubaugh 50 (8): Something has been off since his demotion after big league debut. Hope he's not hurt. I'm still in for now. OF Joseph Sullivan 45+ (15): Stock up. Nothing left to prove in High A with 160 pa of 922 ops. AA will tell us whether he's an elite prospect or another Joey Loperfido level 4th OF. P Ryan Forcucci 45+ (22): Patience. OF Kevin Alvarez 45+ (16): Patience. OF/IF Shay Whitcomb 45+ (9): Leading the minors in HR. Deserves a long big league audition, but he probably won't get it with Houston. P Colton Gordon 45+ (19): been a mixed bag since his callup but looks like a serviceable 6th SP. P Jackson Nezuh 45+ (12): He's in good shape, needs to avoid giving up HR. Could be underrated. P Jose Fleury 45+ (23): Hurt. Stock could fall fast if its serious. OF/1B Luis Baez 45+ (14): Just started playing in the FCL, looks like he might be moving to 1B. IF Chase Jaworsky 45+ (11): He looks pretty good save for a glaring lack of power, but at age 20 there's plenty of time for that to show up. P Bryce Mayer 45+ (40): Could be this year's Jake Bloss. OF Kenni Gomez 45 (10): Had a much better May than April but k/bb ratios still not where they need to be; only 20 so patience is warranted. OF Kenedy Corona 45 (29): I expect a big month of June from him. K/BB ratios look good and speed/defense is a constant. P Juan Bello 45 (20): Had a really good May and if it continues into June his stock will go up a lot. P Alimber Santa 45 (36): His AA numbers look fantastic and we know he has the stuff. Trending for a surefire add to the 40 man this fall. OF Pedro Leon 45 (26): Finally healthy. Hoping for a Jose Siri trajectory. C/IF Jancel Villarroel 45 (25): Didn't have a great May but he's still young. P Cole Hertzler 45 (HM): stock up, needs to move up to High A. Could explode if he's able to get to AA by the end of year P Trey Dombroski 45 (HM): Lefty innings eater built like an NFL QB. P Alex Santos II 45 (35): looked great in his first 2 appearances since coming off IL but has had a rough last couple appearances. I'm irrationally high on him P James Hicks 45 (18): Stock down, hurt. IF Caden Powell 45 (HM): Playing well in A ball but plenty of yellow flags (k rate, walk rate) to temper optimism. Alberto Hernandez 45 (27): Good start to his season this month. C Will Bush (HM): Stock way up after posting a .938 ops in May. Power hitting catcher/1B, still only 21. Graduated: RF Cam Smith (1), OF Zach Dezenzo (3), P Ryan Gusto (17) Honorable Mention: C: Collin Price, Miguel Palma (30); Price could potentially be a Taylor Jones level AAAA player. IF: German Ramirez, Pascanel Ferreras, Yamal Encarnacion, Jeron Williams, Alejandro Nunez, Max Holy, Camilo Diaz, Sami Manzueta, Hector Salas; slim pickings here; Nunez and Holy cooled off in May. I'm keeping a close eye on Jeron Williams and German Ramirez. OF: Nehomar Ochoa (21), Zach Cole (28), Colin Barber, Esmil Valencia, Lucas Spence, Drew Brutcher, Ethan Wagner, Cesar Hernandez, Cristopfer Gonzalez, Eduardo Perez; more slim pickings. Ochoa and Cole have injury issues lowering their stocks. Brutcher and Spence are UDFA's having good years. Valencia and Hernandez are flying under the radar in Fayetteville. P: All of them but especially Alonzo Tredwell, Wilmy Sanchez, Hudson Leach, Logan VanWey (24), Michael Knorr, Ramsey David, Amilcar Chirinos, Twine Palmer, Brett Gillis, Joey Mancini, Colby Langford, Brett Gillis, Joey Mancini, Michael Knorr, Raimy Rodriguez, Jagger Beck, Joan Ogando, Luis Rodriguez, Jhoster Baez, Parker Smith, Andrew Taylor; lots to like but impossible to know which ones will pan out and stay healthy. Overall a good May on the farm, lots of improvement from the hitters. Looking for some big promotions (especially to fortify the AA roster with guys like Nunez, Baez, Sullivan, Janek, Williams, Bush, Brito, Mayer to AA) this month.
I think the DSL rosters have had enough movement for me to consider them presentable, so here they are. First up is the DSL Blue team. DSL Blue Pitchers Every pitcher who is currently listed on the Blue team throws right-handed. Luis Amador Adrian Ardines - 2nd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season Omar Damian - has been touted as the pitcher to watch from this year's IFA class, currently the youngest pitcher on either roster Antonio Delgado Anthony Gantes - 2nd year with Blue team Allen Garcia - on 60-day IL Alex Gonzalez Ricardo Heredia - on restricted list Robier Hernandez - on 60-day IL Juan Martinez - on 60-day IL Frankelys Mendoza Manuel Mendoza - last pitched in 2023 Juan Mieses - 2nd year with Blue team Eddy Mota - 2nd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season; currently the oldest player on either DSL team (born February 13, 2004) Ender Nunez - on 60-day IL Jesus Nunez - 2nd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season Ismael Obregon Adrian Ruiz Mario Salazar - 2nd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season Jorman Santana Kevin Santana - 2nd year with Blue team Jesus Sosa Catchers Francisco Caldera - 3rd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season Alejandro Castellano - 2nd year with Blue team Luis De Leon Ire Garcia Alexi Quiroz - 2nd year in DSL, was on the Orange team last season Infielders All of the infielders currently listed will be making their pro debuts. Christian Colon is the only infielder who did not sign on January 15 of this year. Christian Colon Jose De La Cruz Sami Manzueta - currently the youngest player on either DSL team (born August 21, 2008) Santiago Martinez Eric Mota Outfielders Kevin Alvarez - Probably the most hyped Astros IFA signing since Ariel Ovando. We've heard a lot about Alvarez's potential, now it's time to see him in a real game environment. Ariel Lebron - 3rd year in DSL; missed the entire 2024 season, was on the Orange team in 2023 Eduardo Perez - 3rd year in DSL; was on the Orange team last season. "Aaron Judge" regressed in year 2, so this is a pretty big year for him. Luis Quesada - 3rd year in DSL; spent last 2 seasons on the Orange team Amauri Ramirez - 2nd year with Blue team
DSL Orange roster Pitchers Anderson Aguilar Angel Aybar - on 60-day IL Miguel Balza - 2nd year; 3 appearances with the Blue team last season Nick Borquez - 2nd year; 9 appearances with the Blue team last season Dayerson Cova Ronald De Los Santos Juan Fraide Leonel Murrieta Cristian Navarro Isaac Palacio Emilio Payro Angel Peralta - 2nd year with the Orange team Luis Reyes - only left-handed pitcher currently on either DSL roster Gabriel Rivero - 2nd year with the Orange team Jhosue Rodriguez Mauricio Rodriguez - on 60-day IL Dionel Villalobos - on 60-day IL Catchers Diego Campos - 2nd year with the Orange team Esteban Castro Miguel Flores - 2nd year in DSL; played for both teams last season Emilio Gonzalez Infielders Anderson Arenaimo Samuel Brito - 2nd year in DSL; was on the Blue team last season Pablo Martinez Cliuver Puello Juan Rojas Franchely Silverio - 2nd year in DSL; was on the Blue team last season Outfielders Yensi De La Cruz Edwilmin Matos Anthony Millan Leandro Morgado - 2nd year with the Orange team Freddy Ramos Esteban Romero - 2nd year in DSL; was on the Blue team last season
Corpus has 16 players on their current injured list, including 7 infielders. That’s crazy. Their pitching staff is still pretty good, but their position player roster is pathetic and doesn’t feature a single player I expect to reach the majors.
Probably mentioned in another thread but Astros signed pitcher Jordan Weems to a minor league contract
https://duckswire.usatoday.com/stor...e-boettcher-senior-year-decision/82769572007/ It'll be interesting to see how Bryce Boettcher does this fall and whether he comes to the Astros in the spring or if he tries for the NFL. He's put on 30 pounds so it'll also be interesting to see if he has any added power or how his profile changes after focusing on football for a year. I suspect if football hadn't been a consideration he probably would have been drafted higher. So if he ends up with the astros it'll be some found money.
