For the love of god, can someone explain the Melton promotion? His numbers scream AAAA in ways Astros fans have long forgotten I don’t need a 225 hitting center fielder with 20 hrs and 100 strikeouts. That’s not beisbol Edit: I’m a fool. Didn’t see dezenzo injury. Melton gets the nod on raw talent alone.
Do you know how many CF hit 20+ HR/season? Last season there were 10 and they averaged ~4.8 fwar. We would all be stoked as hell if he panned out to hit 20+ HR per year regardless of his batting average or strikeouts.
Walk through this with me.... Chas goes on the IL Whitcomb gets called up Dezenzo goes on the IL Blanco goes to the 60-day IL, opening a 40-man roster spot......for....wait for it.... Melton gets added to the roster and called up
Let me see, he is the #2 prospect in the Astros system, he was # 1 prospect last season. Also has a competent bat, and has a good approach at the plate. Melton has a .371 OBP and an OPS of .879 in AAA this season. He plays elite defense at center field. I think he earned his promotion. Now he has to show he belongs.
