NOPE, I messed it up. Tony had a 24 game streak over the course of 45 games. Not sure where I got 33 from, other than Otis Thorpe was a a badass.
Kid's coming in HOT! He obviously had a cold beak and couldn't wait. I'm gonna go ahead and support it, and we'll see how the cookie crumbles.
Still don't know how he made that play with the added degree of difficulty if it being on the Astrodome carpet That and the Correa hit in G7 of the '19 WS (still can't watch any of that game) that bounced back to the infield are ones I wish played out differently for the home team.
Infield in, on turf, and Tony absolutely smoked that ball....the second it left the bat things were all YEEEEEAAAAH and 1.5 seconds later...FUUUUUUUUUK I'm getting all of the bad mojo out of my system early, positive thoughts for the game later
I am glad Whitcomb will be given a chance to hit MLB HRs Will Whitcomb's glove play better at 2nd than Altuve's?
The likelihood that Whitcomb and Melton both tear it up this season is really remote. I support the move, but I think it may be a sign that Alvarez is in worse shape than they are letting on and we are preparing to punt the season and trade Framber at the deadline. If Alvarez is out the rest of the season, there is not a trade out there that would make us contenders this year and the Astros should be planning ahead for next year and beyond.
one of those two is going to ride the pine in favor of Dubong so I really don't get bringing them both up. We'll see.
Melton is not listed on the 40-man roster yet, so I don't know if his callup is legit, or will happen after the game, or what. Chas to the IL and Whitcomb up is only transaction so far.
I said early in the offseason the one thing Houston could not sustain was a serious injury to Alvarez. If he’s going to be out thru July then I think it’s the wise move to prepare to trade Framber and Caratini (and possibly Abreu, Hader, Meyers, and others depending on the market). If Framber keeps pitching well then he should be able to net a Cam Smith level prospect and a Wesneski level pitcher, plus a Juan Bello level prospect. Caratini could very well be the best available catcher on the market and should net an interesting prospect. Abreu is the one whose value I would really be interested in seeing; if a team offers a top 100 level prospect and another prospect who fits in the org top 15, I think that’s a worthwhile move.
Since 2006, only 3 Astros AAA hitters age 24 or younger have posted a wRC+ >130, and ISO >.250, and a swinging strike rate <9% (min 50 pa): Yordan Alvarez Alex Bregman Jacob Melton
I like Dezenzo quite a bit but I agree with this. 1) He can play all 3 OF positions. 2) He makes it harder for opposing managers to skip LH starting pitchers and use only RH starters 3) He allows the team to sit Meyers vs tough RH pitchers or if (when) he struggles. 4) He brings baserunning value. 5) If he isn't starting, the opposing manager must account for his bat for PH when making bullpen moves.
1) sort of 2) how? 3) We're talking about Melton or Chas, right? 4) does he? 5) Managers are not gameplanning around Zach Dezenzo any more or less than any other RH PH
