Not me, although I liked Williams, I thought it was a good trade. I'm not a prospect hugger though.

I try to bring this up anytime people get hyper about balancing the lineup. You should only adjust to what makes YOU a better player and not what AN average player does against AN average hitter. Leave those calls on the secondary step when there is uncertainty about the specific players.

We have a left handed hitting OF now. I’d Yordan ever becomes undead we can have 2. And Caratini makes 3. Maybe the entire world we face won’t be right handed anymore if melton can hit RHP

You are off base on this one.

A pitcher throws different pitches to RH hitters than he does to LH pitchers. We all know not every pitcher has good command of all his pitches every game.

A hitter standing to the left of the plate and catcher has a different look and is a speed bump (maybe a very worn down speed bump) for the pitcher getting into a rhythm.

Maybe the impact is small, but baseball is a game of precision. Any change at all can result in completely different result.

As fans we have all seen pitchers get into a rhythm and trying to interrupt that is a significant priority.

A pitcher throwing to 9 RH hitters has an easier time than if a couple of LH hitters were mixed in to help keep him thinking, executing, and transitioning.

Mental energy is still energy. Maybe I'm making too much of this but MLB is on such a level and such a minute difference can impact wins and losses.

Now it certainly can be argued that the benefit of the platoon advantage/disadvantage is a bigger factor, but this is absolutely A factor.

Also, let's not dismiss the fact that teams are actively avoiding using lefty starters because of the lack of LH hitters on this team. That impacts the RH hitters not getting opportunities vs LH pitchers.

And coupled with that is that the LH pitchers the Astros do face are only the good ones. Good managers simply don't' use their scrub lefties.

To me the bottom line is that having Luis Guillorme on this team instead of Brendan Rodgers feels like it shouldn't matter, but it does.

Teams are skipping LH starters and pitching all RH starters against the Astros. They are keeping their lefty relievers in bullpen and using all RH guys.

That reduces/prevents the Astros hitters get opportunities vs LH pitching.

It's very well documented how much better most Astro hitters are vs LH pitching.

Getting to face LH pitching makes the Astros' lineup better.

    You are welcome.

    You said L/R doesn't matter.

    I explained why it does.

You said if you suck it doesn't matter.

I just gave my opinion why is DOES matter regardless.

How much it matters can be debated but I don't think you can say it does not matter at all.

RH suck = LH suck = SH suck = Guillorme suck = Rodgers suck.
Bottom line is sucks is equal to sucks, there is nothing here to quibble about.

I do agree that its better to have someone who doesn't suck.

A big part of my opinion on this is that this is way to choose between 2 players who suck.

The bottom of every roster has players who suck. It's the nature of MLB.

Right, which is a totally different statement, and is 100% correct.

Please don't turn this into a You Vs. Tomstro Chas-Style debate

    Fair enough.

I don't agree but I respect your opinion and your wish to not continue the debate.

    Go Astros.

So what happens when a batter can't take advantage of a messed up pitcher by changing sides?
