and replace his minutes with some combination of cam and reed next season are we better, worse, or the same as this year's team provided everybody equally as healthy and playing at same level they played at in 2025?
I don't think there's any real chance they trade Jalen in a "get rid of him" kind of deal without getting a good player back. For better or worse, he's still their guy. But if for some reason they did do that, Cam still wouldn't be getting minutes--he is the one much more likely be moved this offseason for whatever they can get, actually. Deep in the doghouse. Reed might get some more minutes, but honestly, the main beneficiaries would be Jabari and Tari, because Amen would slide over to start in the backcourt, freeing up minutes at the 4 spot.
Yes, we would be worse if it were Cam getting the minutes (as I said though it wouldn't be--it would be Amen starting in Jalen's place, and probably Jabari starting at the 4). Cam is a hot mess, Jalen is a better passer, ballhandler, and defensive player--just more well-rounded and more of a team player at this point, despite not being great at any of those things. If you just subbed in Reed for Jalen and kept everything else the same, I don't know. We'd probably still get worse because we'd be so undersized in the backcourt. But I guess there's a chance his shooting could be so good it would make up for it. I just wouldn't bank on it, especially so early in Reed's career.
If we lose Jalen and gain Zion I'm all good with that even if we only got him for 50 or so games during the regular season. This team is deep enough to handle him missing time. He just better be healthy for the playoffs.
How about Jalen + Cam + 2 PHX future 1st for Ja Morant then sign and trade FVV for Zion and in a separate trade throw in Dillon a couple future 1st for the Pelicans to dump someone they don't want on their roster who the Rockets cut afterward. PG - Ja Morant / Reed Sheppard SG - Zion Williamson / Carter Bryant SF - Amen Thompson / Tari Eason PF - Alperen Sengun / Jabari Smith Jr. ..C - Steven Adams / Jock Landale Beat that team OKC!! (I know Zion is considered a PF but dude can play any position) Out: Fred VanVleet Jalen Green Cam Whitmore Dillon Brooks In Ja Morant Zion Williamson Carter Bryant
The problem is that he's not a KD type of dude that you can just plug into any team and boom that team is better. He can't shoot, doesn't play much defense--he's an elite downhill scorer and a pretty good passer and that's it. You have to totally build your team around running the offense through him. And that's just a disaster when a dude can't stay healthy. On top of that we already have two non-shooters who excel at pressuring the rim--Sengun and Amen. A third one makes no sense. On top of everything else Zion appears to be a total POS. I don't understand why anybody wants this guy on the Rockets. He doesn't fit our roster, he doesn't stay on the court, he wrecks team chemistry by being a heliocentric player, and he's a loser-ass waste of oxygen. I don't even know if he's good enough to be a go-to guy when he's healthy. He's not even a Giannis-level scorer, he's clearly a step down from that. And he's nowhere remotely close to that level of defensive player.
In what world is this a discussion we need to be having? As in: have the Nets indicated throwing a bag of picks at Jalen? is it not better to assume the Nets will try and use their cap space and also keep Cam Thomas (to build assets upwards). Green kind of gets in the way of that plan
The same. Still a good team. Not good enough to win a championship. But the Nets aren't trading any draft picks we'd want for Jalen.
Yes we would be better. Especially long term. Reed has a high IQ and a skill set that complements Amen and Alp. They need experience playing together. It will benefit us by the playoffs although we may not win as many in the regular season. Ask for pick 19 in return. Accept 27 just to get rid of the brain dead bad contract weighing us down and hope Flemming is still on the board by then. Keep pick 10 too as there is a good chance we can get either Kon, Kasparas or Egor. In short yes, subtracting a negative is automatically a positive.
The Nets aren’t trading any draft picks period, they are in full re-build and want to jettison players for draft picks and take on bad short-term contracts for draft picks. They are hording draft picks and emulating the Rockets tank strategy. They’d love to get back that 27 swap from us and would hand us anybody on their roster to get it. That pick is our best draft asset and especially to them. I could see them giving us 2 pretty good picks and Cam Johnson for that pick and filler.
Probably a little better. Jalen is an "addition by subtraction" sort of player right now so simply replacing him with anyone that can 3 and D is an upgrade. He's detrimental to this offense for a number of reasons, the primary of which is that him and Amen aren't a good fit together. And his main offensive tool right now Amen just does way better.
he is never healthy for the playoffs. I find it funny people act like these players can control when they can get injured. If you are injury prone it doesnt matter if you rest the entire regular season you can still get injured first game of the playoffs. Kd strained his leg making up a layup in warmups.
