The free throw issue was just weird. The whole team sucking in the playoffs except for fred. Maybe they were too tired because of high minutes, maybe too stressed. Don't know.

amen is the highest potential player on the team but being a franchise player is different, if amen is going to be the first man, trade alperen, or rather trade anyone who can't shoot elite, make amen + 4 shooters and expect amen to make 25/7/7

Yeah no way this silly thread can take over all of the other legit franchise player threads. Not over my dead body.

On a serious note, unless Amen can become a go-to scorer or someone you can run the offense through, it's going to be difficult to call him a "franchise player". Potential for superstardom? Sure, he can be like a #2 #3 on offense and be a perennial DPOY candidate, making himself a top 10-15 NBA player. But I just don't see how he can be the focus of the offense - something a 22 yr-old Sengun has shown he can. We're gonna need both (not either or) and surround them with better players (whether internally or thru trade).

Amen is my favorite player but there is a reason why Sengun is double and triple teamed on a nightly basis. Teams are always game planning for him and that’s why he is an all-star. Amen will be one soon. They were one game from playing in the semifinals and would be if they had an average shooting guard. They’ve developed great chemistry playing with each other and Amen has called Sengun his twin. But all of a sudden people saying they can’t build around them? They may be a 1b or #2 on a contender but you continue to build around your young stars and not tear them apart.

The Warriors’ gameplan was to dare Sengun to score against Donkey 1on1…

Seconded completely, all hinges on his capability to become the next Kawhi and develop Offense swiftly....

Actually every defensive guy should strive to be Kawhi without the load management, no matter the outcome.

Amen has a lot more to learn. Growing pains ahead. But the ceiling is high, and now at least he and we can see it. When it was needed, he stepped up, and for the most part delivered.

Yeah, this thread was me staking my claim that I think Amen will become a #1 offensive option, and I do think he will ultimately be a better scorer and passer than Sengun. Sengun may still be a key part of the picture, I'm not saying we should trade him, or certainly not this offseason (unless we're getting a top 5 player back). I agree we need to surround both of them with more shooting.

I don't know what Amen is.

The Rockets had a losing record when he was the starting PG and he had an assist-to-turnover ratio below 2.

If he's a wing, then he had the worst 3pt percentage of any wing in the league, which is arguably a wing's most important attribute in the modern NBA.

If he's a PF then he's tiny. It seems that his upside is a mini-Giannis. But is short Giannis a franchise player?

Interesting. I didn't know Milo announced Bulls games back in the day before calling Houston home.

I don't think Amen is done developing as a point guard, but for what it's worth, during the 15-game stretch where Fred was injured this season (one of those games FVV did play and sucked though)--the only multi-game stretch where Amen played point guard the whole season and got to settle into the role to some degree--he averaged 5.9 assists to 2.7 turnovers (2.17 AST:TO). One thing to mention about that stretch is that it also featured our worst spacing of the entire season, and a seriously thinned-out roster with two of our best shooters (FVV and Jabari) both down for the count.

I suspect if he were playing point guard in an offense surrounding by good shooters he would have averaged at least one more assist per game.

I still see him as a point guard long-term, and I also think he will be a decent shooter in the long term. His improvement as a jump shooter this season was very noticeable.

If he ends up as a wing though, I think the vision is something along the lines of "more athletic Jimmy Butler".

I think most of us have come to the conclusion that Jalen just isn't that guy .... Sengun is a really good player but I think he's a little limited physically but he can be part of a top tier team.

Amen, he's great. Love his game. He affects the game on both ends, every coach would want a player like that on his team.
What I don't see is a high volume offensive force, and I'm not sure you can ever project him to be that, mainly because of the shooting - not that he can't or won't improve but that he has such a long way to go in that regard - along with tightening up the handles, he's a little turnover prone.
I think he's like the ultimate complimentary player .... Scottie next to MJ. He's gonna make whoever ends up that offensive threat better.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he ends up fixing all his flaws and becomes everything we hope .... either way, he needs to be on the court as much as possible, he's the best player on this team.

Amen is a really good player. But I think something is wrong when the team's franchise player can't shoot.
