I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets called up to get a crack at everyday 2nd base if he goes on 15 game hot streak and his k rate isn’t absurd. I think Brown is really invested in his success because he was his first ever draft pick and he’s going to want to be proven right.
Trey Dombroski @ Midland: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K Alimber Santa and Michael Knorr got the last four innings, and neither of them allowed a baserunner. Santa struck out three in his three innings, while Knorr struck out the side in order in the 9th to get the save. They've both handled the switch to relief very well; Santa hasn't racked up an obscene amount of strikeouts, but he appears to have gotten the message to get outs any way he can. Knorr missed much of last season, so his move was probably more to get himself back on track.
The problem is that both Brice and Whitcomb hit right handed. Pena, Paredes, Altuve, Walker, Diaz, Smith are all every day players and hit lefty. Right now Meyers in CF and Dubon at 2b are playing well enough to get every day playing time. They both hit right. All backup outfielders and the backup 2b are RH Neither Whitcomb nor Matthews fix the biggest problem this roster has. Sure, maybe one of them would be an upgrade from Dubon, but then you are still too RH heavy and have 1 less positions open to bring in a lefty bat. Whitcomb could because monster in Cincinnati. Whitcomb and Blubaugh for Gavin Lux. Throw in a guy like Alex Santos if needed to close the deal. Whitcomb has no place to play in Houston and Blubaugh has fallen behind Gordon, Gusto, and Walter on the depth chart and can be replaced with Ullola. Lux isn't a star, but has another year of control and would fit as a lefty hitting 2b/LF who takes walks, solid bat, and can balance the bottom of the lineup
At least we control the running game well enough that walks are just walks and don’t turn into extra bases, right? Right!?!?
The Dominican Summer League season kicks off on Monday, so expect the rosters for those teams to be updated... at some point
College Regionals kicked off on Friday. If you wanna watch some non-HS-Intl prospects against comparable big-boy teams...espn+ will let you watch every game
Does anyone know why Melton was scratched from the original Sugarland lineup? They’ve made multiple mistakes this year via their starting lineups they tweet out… so that wouldn’t shock me if it’s all it was. With Dezenzo leaving the game today with a hand issue, it’s definitely something I’ve got my eye on though.
