I’m greedy - I’ll be disappointed with the division unless we get a top two seed. I want no part of another 3-game series. I know we have two aces, but it’s baseball. The difference between a top-2 seed and the weakest division winner is now massively larger than the difference between 3 and 6. Detroit is the enemy. Seattle doesn’t matter as much - we’ll both probably make it.
I agree on the lack of quality depth in the Astros farm system. As for Walker, they were told to win so they attempted to address the issue with signing Walker because the deal is short and the AV isn't that large. We will see, he has had a bad start but I still think he will end up being the same player he was in Arizona. Flaws and all. I want the Astros to run away with the division as well - and I was told if management believes they can win a WS, they will make moves that are needed. Then again - is it really management or is it ownership that has to believe the Astros can win? Regardless, I am glad that ownership at least is open to a soft rebuild or re-organization if the Astros falter for some reason. Players like Meyers, Valdez, Hader and Caratini would have good value on the trade market with their performances this season.
22-11 going into July 4 series against Dodgers was my hope. Do that and you are on a 98 win pace. 1 down, 21 to go.
I’ll be very surprised if this team falters between now and the deadline, especially if Yordan is actually going to return soon.
Trading Meyers, Framber, Hader, Abreu, and Caratini should be more than enough to remake the farm system, bringing back 4-5 Top 100 type prospects plus a couple of interesting lower level guys. Ideally they could dump Walker and McCullers to free up some money but that’s probably not in the cards. Hopefully that’s all moot and they go out and get the lefty bat and stable MoR SP to get them over the bump this season.
