Next you'll try and tell me that the Dead and the Allmans are just some mediocre hippie jam bands[/QUOTE] I'm no fan of the Dead at all. But my son who is a professional studio musician tells me I'm way off base on that assumption. My son actually started picking up the slide 10 years ago because of the Allman's Now for the Allman's are one of my favorite bands, and I'm big into Tedeschi Trucks, an offshoot band. Derrick Trucks is Buddy Trucks nephew I believe, and he has played with them many times as a youth. love the Allman's as much as i hate the dead and Phish, and I live in Vermont's back yard, but that doesn't matter. Your boy Trey just went the Jeffersons route and bought on the Upper East side I believe. sold out. I don't hate those who care for that endless dribble. I'm just not letting them touch my Bluetooth speaker at my party. This is my son10 years ago. He was just starting to do jam band stuff. Freakin Greatfull Dead changed his whole musical direction. This was when he was just getting started. Some good jam stuff Santana. Mine is the young fella on lead guitar.
Derek is the nephew of "Butch" Trucks...which is a hell of a name for a drummer. I haven't paid attention to a Phish studio album since the mid-90's. They had a pretty good run of 3 or so back then, and they sure as hell put on a great live show, if you could tolerate the "phish fans". I can listen to the Dead (not the cosmic spacey stuff) and the Allmans all day.
This is where I'm at. Love Phish radio on Sirius though. Duane Allman was one of the top 5 guitarists of all time IMHO.
If the Astros think Jacob Melton is ready and want to sell high on Meyers: Mets get: CF Jake Meyers Astros get: IF/OF Jeff McNeil IF Jeremy Rodriguez IF/OF AJ Ewing $4M (2025) $8M (2026) The Mets would need to really covet Meyers for this to be realistic, but I could see it happening. The Astros get a versatile veteran LHB in McNeil and 2 2nd/3rd tier high ceiling infield prospects to stock the lower levels of their farm. Astros new lineup: SS Pena 3B Paredes DH Alvarez LF Altuve CF Melton 1B Walker 2B McNeil RF Smith C Diaz Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Dezenzo, McCormick
It is a very interesting idea. My initial reaction was "no".... but when I think about it, it isn't bad. I think Walker's contract will be close to a wash compared to actual production, so it won't be an albatross but isn't an asset either. Losing Framber really hurts and likely ends any chance of a 2025 WS run - which is a MASSIVE cost. However - Eldridge is a legitimate bat prospect, with a lot of bat speed, tons of power and size. He is a good athlete, just not a good first baseman at this point, but he has the tools and is young. I think that if the Astros are going to semi punt on this season - it would have to be for a deal like this. While it is obvious that Dana and his staff know scouting - the reality is that the Astros have missed out on some higher end prospects the last few drafts. The Astros wanted that 17 year old pitcher Cam Caminiti at the end of round 1, but he was off the board and they also wanted that midget high school outfielder that is raking for the Twins or Dbacks - but passed on him for Janek (yuck).
Selling high on Meyers seems like a really good idea. He had a .870 OPS on 5/28 last season before absolutely cratering the rest of the season. McNeil is a plus lefty bat on a reasonable contract who can fill a lineup spot for two years before his bat significantly declines.
IF, big if, huge if, they think Melton will be ready to contribute then you entertain trading Meyers in the offseason.
You get a lot more for him at his current production level than you do when/if he reverts back to his career #s. Plus another half season of club control before the arb years get (moderately) expensive.
Like Snake Diggit said, it's ultimately a bet on Melton being ready or close to it. He's not a kid, he's turning 25 this season and has close to a .900 OPS in AAA. McCormick and Dubon are also very capable defensively in center. They could turn to Chas if they think Melton needs more time to develop or if he struggles when called up.
I get what you're saying, but I just don't understand downgrading one of the strongest positions on a team semi-devoid of strong positions in the middle of the season ...and like I said, the offseason is a different proposition
"Why would you sell a stock when it's performing well?" I feel like you're underestimating what McNeil brings to the table. He's a lefty middle of the order-type hitter who can play 2B and OF.
I get what you're trying to do, but from what I've seen McNeil is a dogs!!t 2B and I'm just not sure how he fits this team. Pretty solid-ish hitter though.
