Ceballos, 35, played in 609 NBA games and averaged 14.8 points. He scored a career-high 50 points as a member of the Phoenix Suns in a December 20, 1994 game against Minnesota. However, Ceballos is best known for his famous blindfolded dunk in the 1992 Slam Dunk contest. He averaged a career-high 21.7 points for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1994-95 when he was selected to the All-Star team. "With the signing of Cedric, we are delighted to have this seasoned veteran to go along with the young players we signed," Stars general manager Burrel Lee said.
Why did he get out of the NBA in the first place? I know he had a reputation as a headcase, but its not like that's kept others out, especially being such a productive scorer
It could have been worse. Cedric spent most of his time in the PBA, or the Philipine basketball association..
Dude could fill up the basket. I loved him when he was on the Suns. I hope he's playing in the ABA for the love of the game and isn't doing it because he's broke.
How about last year when they jacked around with the format and, if I remember right, the guy that won didn't even make his last dunk or something. I forgot. Why does the NBA mess around with the format of an event that produced several classic moments? Just go back to the old school style. Also, start getting some of the vets involved with the game. Players of Jordan, Dominique, and at this point, even Carter's status won't participate. Do what you have to do to get players involved--if it requires upping the prize money, do it. I'm not sure what would correct it and get the high level talent back in the event, but surely the NBA could come up with something if they really wanted to.
If I remember correctly, there were at least a few "high level" guys interested last year(Steve?), but they weren't allowed in because of the new "Rising Stars" format.
They only had the "Rising Stars" format because they have been striking out with proven superstars for years. What they should really do is to get some of the big time advertisers together like Nike, Coke, Mcdonalds, and put together a $5 million dollar, winner take all prize for the slam dunk competition. At $5 mill, even the top guys would be going for a prize that's 1/3 or 1/4 of their yearly salary. No way, you'd have all of the top guys declining then.
He basically ate his way out of the league. I saw him on the Harlem Globetrotters last year when they were playing Michigan State, and Club Ced looked like he was hanging out in clubs. He had to be about 20 pounds over wait, sporting a HUGE spare tire, showed no athletic ability or natural ability, had no stamina, and just look horrid. It was embarrassing.
The stupidest dunk contest was the one with the damn wheel and they asked Franchise to do some Dominique style dunk, or something!
