Dude put up a 7.2 WAR season in 112 games (the strike/Bagwell MVP year) as a leadoff hitting CF I can't do the math in my head, but if he'd had like 20 more hits over his career he would have retired as a dead-on .300 hitter. .299 has to be a bit annoying. He's one of my favorite "underrated players" of all-time.
Lofton Biggio Bagwell Caminiti Finley Gonzales (Short stop) - Cedeño was serviceable Catcher - Scott Servais? Still 6 out of the 9 spots would have been simply amazing. The other blunder was picking Phil Nevin over Derek Jeter, because Nevin was supposedly easier to sign… geesh. What is irritating was that the Astros needed a shortstop and Jeter was practically gift wrapped for them; but because they had drafted Phil Nevin a 3rd baseman, it eventually propelled the Caminiti and Finley trade for Derek Bell and Ricky Gutierrez. The Astros of the 90’s even with all the personnel blundered moves by the front office, were still legendary good. Unfortunately the Braves had our number in the 1990’s, and again in 2022…
