Unsurprisingly you don't recall correctly. He refused to work out for any team other than the Pistons because he wanted to go #1 overall. Refusing to work out for the Cavs didn't cause them to pick a terrible player instead.
To be honest, I don't blame we picked Jalen, considering that Mobley's father doesn't like KPJ and probably Mobley himself doesn't want to end up in Houston. Cade was the #1 pick, we couldn't get him neither. So, it's ok we drafted Jalen and that's probably most managers would do if they were at Stone's position. What I don't like is that after three years disappointing experiment, Stone still offered him an extension. Now we have to bear the consequences and witness one of the most disastrous Playoff debut performances in a 7 game series in NBA history. Well, maybe we can comfort ourselves because at least Stone was not that stupid to throw him a max contract. Despite Jalen's diminishing trade value, Stone has to find a solution next season and solve the problem he created. So yeah, I don't regret that we missed Mobley, we can also think about the bright side that we got Sengun later.
What knee-jerk reactions we have here... 1. Three years is enough to find out what he has to you? Hate to see what YOUR personal resume looks like. 2. Check Kobe's debut in the playoffs and let us know about "most disastrous" and let us know your thoughts then. 3. Not sure how his trade value is diminishing based on one playoff series that we weren't even supposed to be in, definitely not as the #2 seed. You guys seriously need to get a grip and realize that the expectations were extremely low going into this season and we exceeded them by leaps and bounds. We didn't lose to some scrub Grizzlies squad, we were beat by a very competitive Warriors team littered with ex-champions all around.
I regret that we missed on Franz, he's pretty much exactly what we need as a actual scorer on the perimeter. Oh well no use crying over spilled milk.
Kobe's debut as a bench player? You gotta be kidding me... But ok if you want to compare Jalen with a bench player Kobe back then, let's just compare some basic stats: Kobe's first playoff series was against Blazers, he managed to get 7.5 points in less than 10mins (52.9% FG + 50% 3P FG). Our Jalen got 13.3 points in 31.3 mins (37.2% FG + 29.5% 3P FG). I think Kobe is doing much better.
Yeah, Franz is also a good fit but nobody knows for sure back then...so...I still think most managers would do what Stone did...It's indeed a pity we wasted our #2 pick...
So 3 years of failure wasn't enough, so now there's been 4 years of failure. How many more years of failure do we have to wait to admit the obvious? As to the stupid Kobe comment, Kobe's first playoff experience was a few months after he turned 19 years old....not when he was a 23 year old 4 year NBA vet. Kobe was a better player in his second season when he was 19 years old than Jalen will ever be.
I still think Mobley on the Rockets would be different than on the Cavs. Lots of what ifs but we still ended up with a good squad and war chest.
Sure, because we still drafted Sengun and as a result of drafting a terrible player instead of Mobley, we got several more years of tanking so we could draft even more players better than Jalen. If we had just drafted Mobley and in a perfect world paired him with Sengun, the team would be way too good to keep being pathetic for several years.
You're gonna di** ride Evan till the day that he dies, we all are aware of this. You just can't stop crapping on a Rockets player in favor of some other random that has NOTHING to do with this team and never has. Like I've stated before, join Cavs Land so at the very least you have a posse you can form to ride that D all the way out of the playoffs the same way MY Rockets went out.
My guy, it's over. There's nothing to debate. Evan Mobley is already a DPOY and All NBA caliber player and Jalen is still terrible. The issue is you constantly making excuses for a failure simply because you can't admit you were wrong about him. It's okay to admit. Everyone is wrong sometimes and the Rockets really have moved on....it's time for you to move on too.
I highly doubt the Rockets would have traded up for Sengun if they drafted Mobley. I also don't think they draft Jabari if they already Mobley as a rookie.
Most top 3, 5, and 10 picks don't work out. The whole point of "tanking" is getting enough chances at top picks that you get lucky a few times. No team is going to select the ideal player every year or even more often than not. So framing it like the #2 pick was wasted is the wrong state of mind. You have to go into the multi year rebuild knowing/expecting that at least one of the players you are drafting won't live up to the draft pick and will be moved or out of the league in 5-7 years. The mistake the Rockets did was keeping Silas. Keeping for him for 2 extra years just made it harder to figure out what the Rockets actually had in a player like Jalen and created the situation where they felt they need to extend him at all just in case. They should have just cut bait after 1 season right after Harden was traded.
The Rockets prospects mostly improved. Green hasn't improved enough, but hard to fault that on Silas when Silas tried as hard as he could to fit the Rockets into an offense more suitable for Green. Green's extension is solely on Stone's head. I think many judge Stone too harshly on a variety of things. Extensions to KPJ and Green look to be his worst unforced errors.
Evan Mobley being a 2nd Team All-NBA caliber player is wild this dude is an industry plant they were saying Tyrese Haliburton was the most overrated player in the league…I got the real nominee right here in Mobley
Mobley is massively overrated. Just because Jalen has been disappointing doesn't mean we have to prop him up. I don't really blame his dad for not wanting him anywhere near KPJ though
