This is literally our first season competing with this group.... OKC and Pacers have been competing and developing their teams longer and are in a different spot.

I hate 8 man rotation in playoffs.

    Overplaying Jalen sucks

I agree with OP as well as those that note even if you can get additional rest for your core so they are not fatigued toward the end of the game.

I too was scoffed at for saying we should be aiming for a 10-man rotation: (1) gets players rest, (2) prepares them for a bigger role (if needed); & (3) wears down the other team.

Mountain out of a molehill. 8 is normal, some do 9, 10 is stretching it.

Remember in G5 when they had a 29 point lead (then had to reinsert the starters)?

Only thing these series show me is we need to push Amen as pg and get him his reps while Reed develops on the bench or something

Hard to watch Shai & Halliburton and think we want to run it back with a 31yr old 6ft point guard who can’t penetrate the paint or play fast pace

Neither one of these teams made a huge trade either. Pacers sent Bruce and some picks for Siakam and let guys develop. Thunder were 10th seed 2 years ago with a 24yr old Shai and only signed Hartenstein and let guys develop

Giannis or Booker trade would be a mistake. KD is only worth it depending how cheap you can get him like pacers did with Siakam or Thunder with Hartenstein

"Neither one of these teams made a huge trade either." The best player for every one of those teams came from outside the org! Shai and Halliburton were both acquired in trade. Brunson was a big dollar free agent. OKC traded away Paul George. Indy traded away Sabonis. Neither team even slightly regrets giving up what they gave up.

lol you right but Halliburton & Shai we’re like rookies when traded for and were allowed to develop. I mean neither team went all in on a big name sacrificing half their depth like Giannis or Booker would

I really admire how Carlisle is willing to eat 5 to 10 minutes of actual bad players like Thomas Bryant and Tony Bradley even in tight playoff games to keep his rotations fresh. That takes serious stones. It's no surprise they execute so much better than the other team late in the 4th. Their team is fresh while the other one is gassed.

    OKC doesn't play a 10-11 man rotation.

The difference is not in the number but in the players, all other teams play good offensive players, even if they aren't good on defense.....they have a balanced roster.....our roster has some balance, but Ime's rotations do not.

Teams historically shortened their rotations in the playoffs because the rosters had 7-8 players who are capable of playoff basketball.
the 5-10 spots have improved massively within the last 20 years so some teams can play those guys now.

For the rockets, I think some players could have gotten spot minutes as a surprise element or to give a breather to the starters but cam and reed are certainly not ready to go more than that.

Jabari should have been utilized more for sure.

When you run 10-11 deep the team overall will have fresher legs down the stretch. It’s simple. That’s really the only mistake Ime made vs the warriors. Look at the box score in that series. Every time we won Ime played at least 9 guys. Also every time we lost Ime played 8 guys. If we were going to lose anyway I would’ve played Reed and Cam real minutes the whole series.

I'm not sold on this being directly correlated to winning but I do wish we had a coach who would see someone like JG struggling and say you know what, let's give Cam a chance or let's give Reed a chance instead of letting guys play through slumps. MDA was the same way.

I think it mostly depends on player competence and to a lesser extent coaching philosophy. If you have 10 guys who are competent to play playoffs ball, then by all means play them all. Playing players more minutes than you have to increases fatigue and injury risk. But few teams can afford fielding a roster with more than 8 or 9 players that are competent enough to play more than spot minutes in the playoffs.

The irony is that defense-oriented teams should play a longer rotation because defensive intensity requires more raw energy than offensive skills. So if your bread and butter is defense and rebounding like the Rockets, then you should keep your players' legs fresh to have a chance. But most coaches who emphasize defense are also those who have a reputation of grinding their players to the ground.

I think it was a coaching failure by Udoka not to use his depth more. Hopefully he learns from it, but he's pretty stubborn so I doubt it.

How would Bari be better than Brooks, both of them have similar 3P%, Brooks can dribble and attack the paint. Bari can’t
