Chandler Rome came out with an article that said the roster is poorly constructed. Which it may be. But, I’ve never seen him talk about the overall roster construction before the all star break. Joe is looking for something to blame.

Explain why Maldy wasn’t retained when Dusty wasn’t, right after that series ended. Explain why they weren’t retained and Diaz was our starting catcher from the beginning of the very next season and still is. You think Maldy has the year Diaz had last year? Entering September Diaz was still playing at an all star level. Baker stopped playing him, Diaz last start was on September 26 against Seattle. He was used sparingly the rest of that season. Why would Baker bench a guy who was mashing? You’re also claiming Diaz would not have made a difference. These are the stats for the bottom of the lineup for the Rangers and Astros in the ALCS. Astros' 8 and 9 hitters: .214 avg/0 HRs/0 RBIs/1 Run Rangers' 8 and 9 hitters: .382 avg/2 HRs/7 RBIs/11 Runs The Astros lost all 4 home games against the Rangers in the ALCS. McCormick and Diaz had great seasons and Diaz was the Astros best hitter at home that season.
