This is the proudest I've ever been of being an American... We have the best country, the best music, the best basketball, the best president, the best everything.....

I am not embarrassed to be an American, per se. But American exceptionalism is a disease that is going to destroy either our country, the entire world, or most likely both the US and the World.

I am embarrassed for the children of immigrants who grew up in the US only to become trolls on online web forums to dump on racial and sexual minorities as a hobby.

We need to cut spending and raise taxes before the buyers of our bonds get spooked and start investing in the BRICS because somehow it became the more stable bet.

 

The way we talk is somewhat embarassing as many countries speak so much more eloquently. We have a lot going for us. I encourage OP to just be patient and not care what his friends think. Our time here is small and being embarrassed is just a waste of time. Hang in there man.

Because we are not going to remain the world's sole hegemony and our society collectively is in denial because of our exceptionalism. We are taking a sludge hammer to the institutions we built up to support us and our liberal ideology in the post WWII period. At some point, assuming it hasn't already started, the world will be at war again.

Our power and prosperity was a result of us leading the developed economies from the ruins of WWII. Every role we abdicate, China willingly steps in to fill.

At some point, like the UK and Germany, the premier power and the ascendent power resolve the question of who gets to rule and the more allies you have in that conflict, the easier it is to win.

 

It’s embarrassing that Trump is our President. It’s embarrassing that so many people voted for him.

but you are correct sensei in one sense, in that where a power vacuum exists, someone will step in to fill it. The problem is, the left thinks the US is too evil to take that role, and the right doesn't want American taxpayers to pay for it.

Sludge hammer is more fitting than a Sledge hammer. Rather than drain the swamp as promised by the populists, our populist-run federal government is openly swimming in it. We are living in the second Gilded Age. But instead of becoming the world leader in innovation, we are already the world leader watching China overtake us.

Embarrassed by aspects of the government, some cultural and societal trends, absolutely.

Embarrassed to be myself and having been born here, no.

It's an enormous country with a lot going on, past and present. There's plenty of things to be proud and ashamed of. It would only be embarrassing for me personally if I were to be proud of the shameful things.

The 'woke" culture is terrible. A bunch of people who cry about the country and likely contribute very little to society. I personally judge people as who they are. Color of someone's skin has never played a factor. People hate themselves in here for absolutely no reason other than what they're mentally manipulated by.. They say they're ashamed but they don't realize that they should take a hard look in the mirror
