It is not the irrationality, it is wanting their player to fail, even if he is best player. I don’t see how you consider them true rockets fans.

The same could be said of all of the Sengun fans who root for him over everything else on the team. I think the problem is one of perspective. Yours is that Sengun's being "hard done by" by certain members of the Rockets fanbase and they should support him just because he's a Rocket. My perspective is that no player matters anywhere near as much as the team, and that it's a fan's prerogative to **** on every player they don't like - as long as they're with the team through thick and thin, that's the most important thing. Team loyalty > players' feelings.

I almost gave up my Rockets allegiance last year when they did not re-sign my favorite player.

I am sure there are many "player fans" who followed their favorite player to the Rockets and remain Rockets fans even after the player is no longer on the team.

I do not mind player-only-fans as long as they are level-headed and do not elevate their player above the team.

Let's be honest, even those of us long time rabid Rockets fans have our own favorite players and we are inevitably biased when discussing about them. It's just that some are more irrational and/or obnoxious than others. I think it's more about narcissism. Some people just never think or admit they can be wrong. Whoever don't agree with them are subhuman.

The "player only haters" bother me a lot more than the "player only fans". Guys who just cannot stop talking about how much they hate one Rockets player over and over and over again and it comprises the vast majority of their posts. They know who they are.

I don't mind people being over-the-top in their love for one player as long as it isn't expressed as negativity toward the rest of the team/organization. I also welcome people being constructively critical of Rockets players. But if all you post about here is attacks against one particular Rocket, grow up. The better response to a Rockets player infuriating you so much and consuming so many of your thoughts is to just go do something else for entertainment. "Touch grass", as the kids say.

Yeah this is the actual worst to be fair. Fandom's supposed to be about supporting something, not spending all of your time trying to tear it down.

There are maybe 5 posters who are foreign born Alp only fans at best.
There are more rockets fans that support the best player on the team from supposed Rockets fans that trash Alp.
Conflating the two is what it happening.

This doesn't seem to have any relevance to the post of mine you quoted, so I'm genuinely not sure how to respond tbh.

The Rockets have traded my favorite player many many times. Mike Newlin, Moses Malone, Ralph Sampson, Hakeem, Stevie Franchise, Hartenstein. But, I’m still here.

It’s you’re lumping a small subset of people in with Rockets fans that’s support our best player.

No I'm not, that's you projecting something that isn't there into my words. I'm literally talking about the people who root for one player above and before the team. Anybody else is irrelevant to my statement.

Yes but they don't get one tenth of the talk of how horrible SOF are.

That's exactly my point. If they have the same behavior, why does SOF get all the bad talk? They deserve the same treatment.

No, my perspective is not that. I don't really care for their opinion, the sof and haters are both on my ignore list, to me they are two sides of the same coin. I am just bothered by the haters, or other fanbois getting a pass while the talk is mostly how bad the sof are.

Over the years the rockets have traded away many of my favorite players, including the greatest of all time in Dream. Sam Cassell, Kyle Lowry, Cuttino Mobley, Christian Wood (just kidding)…

the team is bigger than any one player and so is my rockets fandom

…but if they trade Tari, I’m done ;)

They traded Elvin Hayes in 72

They traded Moses Malone in 82 .... he was the league MVP that year and the finals MPV the next year for Philly.

    They traded Dream ....

They've done it before, they'll do it again .... I'll still be here even if it pisses me off.
