ummm..it was al Jazeera that aired it. actually, i'm sure this was all done from the prison cell where Osama is hanging out waiting to be announced on Monday.
At least some in the Arab world can finally get past their on-going denial claiming that Al Qaeda and Bin Laden had nothing to do with 9/11. I think many of them are still under that belief before this tape.
the WH has pressured the networks and cablenews to hold back on reairing of videos in the past I dunno if this helps or hurts Bush or Kerry on the Bush side...it helps him by scaring people, it hurts him by refocusing that he hasn't caught the mastermind of 9/11 for Kerry, the opposite is true IMO, it only reaffirms that this administration has had the wrong focus for the past 18 months in the WOT. Pulling out of Afghanistan before our job was done is the #1 mistake that this administration should be fired over.
Osama looks much older and a little more haggard than in the most recent tape he appeared, a little over a year ago. This tape is real, and Osama is still alive.
New Bin Laden Tape Surfaces * Unclear When Tape Was Made Oct 29, 2004 4:29 pm US/Eastern CAIRO (CBS) The Arab television station Al-Jazeera aired a video of Osama bin Laden on Friday directly admitting for the first time that he carried out the Sept. 11 attacks and promising to outline "the best way to avoid another Manhattan." It was the first footage of the al Qaeda leader to surface in more than a year. The video showed bin Laden in traditional white robes, a turban and a cloak reading from papers and standing in front of a plain, brown cloth background. "We decided to destroy towers in America," bin Laden said. He said the attack was carried out because "we are a free people ... and we want to regain the freedom of our nation." "Your security is not in the hands of (Democratic candidate John) Kerry or (President ) Bush or al Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands," he said. http://cbsnewyork.com/topstories/topstories_story_303162722.html
dick morris just said..and i'm paraphrasing..."terrorists speak with bombs...not verbal messages. they don't seek to influence elections by videotape...they do what they did in Spain. the fact that this effort is with a videotape and not a bomb may speak volumes to people about the efforts of this administration in homeland security." do with that what you will...but it's an angle i really didn't consider.
Osama looks much older and a little more haggard than in the most recent tape he appeared, a little over a year ago. Analysis I've seen has noted that he actually looks much better than he did previously. His last video appearance was December 2001 where he looked in bad shape. Here, he apparently looks quite strong. dick morris just said..and i'm paraphrasing..."terrorists speak with bombs...not verbal messages. they don't seek to influence elections by videotape...they do what they did in Spain. the fact that this effort is with a videotape and not a bomb may speak volumes to people about the efforts of this administration in homeland security." do with that what you will...but it's an angle i really didn't consider. Interesting angle maybe, but not one I'd back until election day passes.
What we learned from this tape: Terrorists can't run or hide, wait, there's one. OBL is going Libertarian or Nader this year.
no...thats not how it works. it is traders buying the news trying to hope there is more follow thru on the tape. it's not "the market" knowing this is better for bush. i'm a trader too.
Well Dick Morris is wrong in his set up. The terrorist bombings in Spain didn't change the outcome of the election so much as the Spanish governments attempt to cover up who was responsible for the bombings. One the people found out their government was lying to them the elections were pretty much a done deal. As for the rest of it, Morris could be right in that Al-Qaeda isn't trying that hard to sway the election one way or the other. As for Condi's request to not air OBL tapes, that wasn't really so that Al-Qaeda wouldn't send secret messages. She did mention that as a reason, but it's the most ridiculous one I can imagine. They can put those tapes on any website they would like, and have their cells watch the tapes for codes there. It doesn't matter whether the U.S. Media shows them or not. Several media heads who spoke to Rice about it at the time said the reason she asked them not to show the tapes was so that Osama's message wouldn't get out, because it might make him not seem as bad, or something to that effect.
i wonder how some of the muslims feel now who thought 9/11 was a jewish conspiracy and other idiots who thought 9/11 was a conspiracy. im sure this fits in with the conspiracy theories somehow.
"In response to this tape of Osama bin Laden, let me make it clear, crystal clear, as Americans we are absolutely united in our determination to hunt down and destroy Osama bin Laden and the terrorists," Kerry told reporters on a campaign stop in the hotly contested state of Florida. "They are barbarians and I will stop at absolutely nothing to hunt down and capture or kill the terrorists wherever they are, whatever it takes. Period."
How do they get the tape to Al Jazeera without getting caught and backtracked to the source? I wish they would figure that out. I'm sure there is some twisted web of delivery waiting to be destroyed. You just got to start with the deliverer and work your way backwards. I guess that's not possible for some reason. As far as some thinking Israeli operatives were behind 9/11, if they believed that to begin with, then I'm sure they can claim the new tape is a fabrication from Hollywood that was smuggled into Pakistan. It wouldn't surprise me if their denial continued. But, they probably knew all along and agreed with 9/11 under that guise to begin with.
Possible scenario. Anonymous drop of DVD/CD. Use temporary email account. Notify receipient for pickup. Or pay a street beggar to deliver it. In either case you'd need video surveillance of large swaths of urban areas 24/7 to even have a chance. Also, do to the Bush's purging of the military of homosexuals, we've lost at least 20 % of our linguists in Arabic and other languages used in those regions, and our inability to use human intel ( due to inability to fit in ) neuters us as well.
Umm, I disagree with you. So do the talking heads on CNBC who echoed my comments. I don't care if you do have a year of trading experience - that doen't make you an expert.
