Would you still be a Rockets fan if your favorite player was traded?

If you want to reserve the player only fan for fans who would follow their player, then yes there is no jof.

so what is your terminology for posters irrationally defending a player to death that won’t follow the player to another team? Imo there is not a need to distinguish between the two because the effect is the same while they are on the forum.

and as others have noted, you won’t really notice the sof gone, because they post so rarely. You would notice when atw or hakeem94 or fchw leaves though.

No, an "only fan" is a fan who is only a fan of the player, and only incidentally a "fan" of the team they play on because they're there. If Sengun leaves the Rockets, you're no longer a Rockets fan, but the majority of us still are. Being an intense fan and being an only fan are very different things. I wouldn't expect Mathloom to leave the forum if Jalen got traded. It's also not that it's "more irritating" because somebody is just an only fan - it's just that their perspective is totally different, and inherently biased towards the player. Is there a likelihood that you stop supporting Alpi yet carry on supporting the Rockets? It's very common for supporters of players to withdraw their support when they play worse whilst continuing to root for their team - I've done so myself recently with Jalen. No player would ever have me stopping supporting the Rockets, my bias is towards the team, that's the difference.

u can call those posters Jalen fanbois or whatever, but at the end of the day, their ultimate allegiance is to the Rockets even if they spend a lot of their time defending Jalen Green…they’re not dropping the Rockets if Jalen is gone tomorrow to go follow him to his next team…they were here before him, and will be here after him

SOF allegiance is to Sengun who just so happens to be on the Rockets, but they don’t actually care what team he’s on as long as that team is a good situation for him because he’s the priority and he’s where their loyalty lies

I don't even know who my favorite Rocket is. That's part of the charm of the current Rockets team -- lots of likeable dudes.

    This is a stupid question.

Also, there are absolutely Jalen only fanbois. To say any different is ridiculous.
Doesn’t matter if it’s Alp, Jalen, Amen or any other player.
Player over the team mentality is rampant.

One could say if you don’t support ALL our young talent, you aren’t a fan in the first place.

I wouldn’t change allegiances. I will always root for the Rockets over any other team. If they traded Amen, I would probably quit watching for a while from disgust, just like I did with the playoffs after the Rockets loss. The Knicks, Indy game was the only playoff game I’ve watched. I’m a rabid Rockets fan and watched every game that I could get with the league pass during their entire re-build. To finally get a superstar in the draft and to trade him before he even gets a full-year starting would be a body blow that might take me a year to get over, but I wouldn’t pull for the team he went to and probably wouldn’t watch any pro basketball for a full-season.

That is where we differ I guess. If some poster irrationally defends a player, and then moves on to irrationally defend another player, then it is not about being a fan of that team, even if they are a fan of the same team all their life. I find this toxic. The only fans usually fall into this category but they are not the only ones in this category. If you are aggressively pushing for players like kpj, wood, whitmore (or bruno fernando for heavens sake), I don't see how this is fandom. It is only fan mentality with the player rotating around and no real support for the team.

Just to make it clear, I think Mathloom is irrationally defending Green but he supported the rockets as a whole as well, all the player. I also wanted Green to succeed all along. The type of fan I am talking about irrationally defending a player, and even not a player like Green who has potential, but kpj , wood territory and ******** on Sengun. I don't see this as fandom. If I were an original houston fan, I would much prefer a reasonable only fan poster to a poster of that type. That's all I am saying.

Would anyone say DD has no real support for the team with all the players he irrationally defended over the years?

they are still ultimately fans of the team 1st and foremost…SOFs are fans of one player and will follow him wherever he goes

Some people are fans of themselves and follow him wherever he goes.

Nah sorry, I'd rather have a million irrational Rockets fans than 1 single player only fan if given a choice. Y'all are temporary visitors, unless Alpi stays here his entire career and you continue being a Rockets fan after he left there's just no way I could ever put a non-fan above a fan on a fan forum, it's kinda how it goes. Player only fans are only marginally better than glory-hunting fans who just support whichever team is winning for me personally, and as somebody raised in British football culture I was raised that die-hard fandom is the only honourable sports fandom, the rest are just wannabes and hangers on.

See this is the "extreme reaction" I'd expect from an actual fan. This is justified. Moving to another team with the player? It is what it is, but those people are not fans of the team at all in truth imho.

I don't know if he'd still be a Rockets fan or not.... but i firmly believe that if/when that happens someone will need to take his shoelaces away and fit him with some grippy socks for a while to make sure he's not a threat to himself or others.

That guy is a total unhinged nutter.

Saw T-Mac & Yao highlights in NBA Live 2005 as a 13 y/o kid, been a Rockets fan ever since. Harden trade time was hard but nice future ahead.

Till today, I still dont quite understand the whole D-Mo situation tho. He was crafty.

    LFG H-Town!

fchowd doesn’t understand normal human interaction, is socially inept, and has a few screws loose…there is also a chance that if the feds got ahold of his laptop, he’d have to be brought in for questioning

but he’s an actual Rockets fan, I’ll at least give him that

I don't disagree with any part of that, he's a Rockets fan who let an obsession get out of control.
