Really? Just Abbott left to save it from doom? Why cant they just represent the wants of people living in the state across the board? Like normal people.
There's a smoke shop on every corner - lots of business is about to be wiped out. If Elon sold Delta9 nobody would **** with it.
I really don't understand this move from any angle other than the power of lobbying (and some residual, draconian social conservatism that still holds sway in Texas). I can't imagine that the alcohol industry likes increased competition in Texas, especially considering how younger generations are moving away from booze and toward weed. Shutting this market down will be a huge boon to their bottom line. I have to ask our conservative brethren on this board: do you agree with this? If so, how do you square it with your belief in personal liberty? Why is this bad enough to prohibit, but alcohol and tobacco are fine? Full disclosure: I've never cared for pot, but don't see the social benefit in criminalizing individual behavior. Even worse, the state keeps turning down the chance for increased tax revenue. Why is Texas ok with sending so much money in weed tax to New Mexico and Colorado? Why continue to prop up a black market that has always existed? It's stupid that Texas will be such a large, orange ocean on this map once this law passes.
Wild that it has harsher potential criminal penalties than standard weed. From what I’ve read the banning was likely a mix of special interest and Dan Patrick being on some sort of moral crusade and making it sound like it’s killing people. Think about the children!
Wouldn't be the first time... “No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that America loves for its children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in,” Patrick said.
No. It's like Texas is being run by absolute f***ing morons with no morals or character to speak of. This isn't about "saving the children" or any nonsense like that. This is Dannie Goeb taking what's likely large amounts of cash from the liquor and pharmaceutical lobbies. Nothing more. We're the only state that is going backwards on this issue and there is no logical reason why that doesn't involve alcohol and drug lobbyists.
The City of Houston cannot balance their budget, can't pay teachers or cops.......................take the rev stream from legalizing weed and put it to good use. And do the same for gambling, why should La get our $$$$. My gosh, conservatives in Austin are fine when there lying and stealing from the taxpayers, or cheating on their spouses but their moral compass stops at weed GTFO
CBD definitely needs intelligent regulation, but this bill is going to create another new black market drug and lots of problems.
Just fewer than 1/2 the counties in Arkansas are still dry counties (46% - 34 of 75 counties are dry), but somehow they have legal medical marajuana. That kind of pokes a hole in the moralism angle being anything but cover.
Not for me either, but I don't think it breaks down as neatly as you think. I know quite a few good ol' boys who enjoy their edibles. Regardless of who consumes it, there doesn't seem to be an argument for prohibiting it. Why does the government care? I'll share another anecdote: a good friend of mine married a woman whose sister was born with a degenerative palsy. She's had seizures all of her life. THC is the only thing that's helped her. Her conservative evangelical parents have spent years lobbying their Republican legislators to ease up on this issue.
There are a myriad of medical benefits. Can't say the same for alcohol. It's also nice to "reset" on occasion.
I'm just not in favor of it. It makes people lazy and unproductive..it also typically leads to people doing other things
