Anybody Else Getting Embarrassed to be an American?

I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!!!

Do I agree with what is going on in my country not a lot of it, but that has no bearing on my love for what our forefathers sacrificed for us to have.

Most everyone in the world would jump at the opportunity to live in the greatest country of all.

I still tear up when USA wins a gold medal in something as worthless as synchronized swimming in the Olympics.


Perception of this country by other countries changes with every election cycle. If you are a foreigner and you don't like Americas policies at the present time wait 4 years. always evolving.

I can't control anything the government in charge decides to do.
If my wife goes to a party, gets drunk and throws up, that's not on me.
If DeShawn Watson while in Houston gets bad touch groin massages, am I embarrassed. For him maybe but not me.

The government is not a reflection of my moral compass or thought process.
If anyone hates, you because of our government decisions of present. Again it will change like the weather.

I will say the younger generations may not feel as patriotic. They just want to play God of War video games. They never saw a space shuttle blow up, or saw the wall come down.

Our president is evil, and we do lots of evil stuff and we have a well-documented history of doing evil stuff. But, I'd never be embarrassed by my nationality or heritage. I only control my own choices (which I am occasionally embarrassed by). Anyway, doing evil is the human condition. If someone is looking down on the Americans, they should examine their own hearts because they're no different -- perhaps just less powerful.

We are not the greatest country in the world, not even close.

We are a shell of what we started out as, and we are run by a criminal organization, billionaires and corporations who work to screw everyone over to enrich themselves.

And 31% of our populace is too ignorant and/or stupid to realize they are ****ing themselves by voting with the rich.

Healthcare for everyone is cheaper than paying insurance, yet some folks don't want it, that is just plain ****ING STUPID.

I am Proud of being an American, I am embarrassed how stupid, gullible and frankly cruel 1/3rd of our country is.......we need to look at countries like Finland and others for how well they are run and emulate them.

We are run by corporate greed which is terrible for the avg American.

So, yes, I am embarrassed a bit.

Chattel Slavery, indentured servitude, genociding the Indians, denial or suppression of rights based on ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender, open and flagrant discrimination based on religion, ethnicity or race, intense social strictures, debtors prisons etc etc etc

You can point out the negatives about any country/civilization/society if you look back through the entirety of their history.

My point wasn’t America is bad and always has been.

My point was America isn’t “worse” today than it was 230 years ago.

 

Was more talking about the constitution, but even that had issues....3/5ths of a man etc.....

Still the principal of self governance with a three tier check and balance situation has worked great.

The problem is that in a 2 party system where the GOP is inherently corrupt and losing the will of the people is causing a crisis.

The GOP pushed through Citizens United which has now been ****ING this country for 15 years, allowing foreign entities and companies to buy elections and votes, has been the worst thing for our republic.

We need to repeal that, codify election spending limits, and reporting, and jail those that are taking money from Russia - Lindsay, Mitch, Cruz etc......

And put hard term limits on all branches of government including the supreme court........not to mention jail Clarance Thomas for bribery acceptance.

We have to ACTUALLY DRAiN the swamp, but instead we just dumped a bunch of swamp creatures into it....and they are stealing this country blind.
