Would you still be a Rockets fan if your favorite player was traded?

I think Jalen Green only fans should be called JagOF's.

 

Honestly, I am one of the guys who you'd name as SOF. I'm trying to avoid posting my possibly controversial opinions with all respect to the actual Rockets fans, but I see that some people think that this thread is a trap for SOFs like me and we wouldn't respond and I wanted to express my own opinions.

Of course, my answer is NO, until I stop to believe that he has the potential to be a star. I would move to the next team if he's traded right now. For now I really believe that the Rockets will have the best possible future if we build around him. He's the only one that showed up in every game against Warriors in the play-offs. He showed that he has the mentality to be a star, no matter how inefficient he is in offense right now. He was bad at defense before and he muscled up in last off-season, in order to improve his defense - which effected his muscle memory badly. That's why he was bad at shooting today. I believe he's going to improve his shooting capabilities this off-season and fix that problem too.

He's only 22 and got a long career. He proved that he can overcome his defects when he's got time to do so. He's got that mentality.

 

Fans have never thought about this question once.

 

I won't, unless that is a super stupid trade like how Dallas sent Luka to LA.

 

Offseason is boring. SOFs looking here much less nowadays.

Same for JOFs. Or AOFs. Basically, anyone that's a player only fan would be out as inherently they are not Rockets fans.

Been following them since 1968 when the San Diego Rockets drafted Big E and loved it when they moved the franchise to HTown in '71. I'm not going anywhere.

 

Anyone who would disown a team because 1) a certain player was traded 2) the team lost too many games 3) or whatever* was never a real team fan in the first place.

... and that's okay in some sense. Just say you're a player fan and not necessarily a team fan.


*one disclaimer is the Oilers moving to Tennessee. I can fully understand an Oiler fan jumping ship after the relocation -- but even then, it means you're prob a HOUSTON fan and cheer for Houston regardless of specific players or winning, etc.

 

Of course Sengun brought new fans, pretty much every new player does. Happened with Lebron and the Cavs and so is the case with JOFs. I can name at least one fan so beholden to Jalen that went nuts and got banned, just like ATW.

Plenty more JOFs as well, who may or may not remain Rockets fans if traded or released. I can't read their mind and neither can you.

 

The biggest "player-only" fans are created from 1) superstar players and/or 2) foreign country-based players..

There are "more" Sengun fans because Turkey is rare in the league -- same way with Lin, Donatas, and Yao and their respective countries.

It's human nature for people to prefer their own -- that doesn't necessarily mean people dislike/hate others, it's just saying they prefer their own.

Me personally, I prefer certain players -- but the main bottom line is the *best* player regardless of preference so Houston wins.

If you'd stop being a fan if your favorite player was traded, you weren't a Rockets fan in the first place. That may be your thing and there's nothing wrong with that, but the mistake is calling yourself a Rockets fan in the first place.

 

Safe to say any one who joined before 2020 (including yours truly) is a real Rox fan.

 

I first root Rockets when T-mac traded here. I was rooting Magic. So if you are outside of US it is quite norm.

 

The human mind is complex, I agree there are guys that have only so much place in their hearts.........

You can compartmentalize effectly - the worshipping of players and the support for a ball club......separate those.

 

How is fchowd a JOF when he was posting here long before anyone even knew Jalen Green existed? He wasn’t only following the Rockets because of Jalen Green no matter how mentally unstable and over the top he was. SOFs are here for one reason only, and if Sengun was traded, we’d thankfully never see them again and everyone here knows it.

He was an example of a Jalen first fan. If the rockets lost by 70 but Jalen had a good game, he's dancing in the streets.

I definitely think there are more Jalen first fans than Jalen only fans.... but they are equally cancerous to a fanbase.
