I want to take a bow because every time we fell behind, I tuned out. Every time i checked back, we rallied. then when we lost the lead, I would tune out again. Luckily we were too close to the end for me to curse the 9th inning.
As of today, just a few days from Memorial Day, Walker is hitting below .200, and has a negative WAR of -0.2. I can't believe this is happening twice in a row...and I was actually fine with both signings at the time they occurred, both have been disgustingly disappointing. I hope Walker turns it around, but he looks terrible at the plate.
Someone needs to step in and prevent the Astros from signing aged players to 3 yr deals. Just smack them across the face.
Walker has been in a 1/3 of the season slump. At some point it becomes the norm and not the anomaly. At least his glove is great. But we didn’t think the Astros were vying for an Adam Everette level player at 1st base.
He's a sub .250 hitter for his career and he's getting older. He's never been a great hitter, but at least he had some power for a few good years. What's concerning is that his OPS and his power are way down too. He's not much younger than Altuve. Hopefully they both get it going, because if they're both really in decline it's going to be a problem.
Hopefully the Stros can develop their next 1B through the system rather than throwing bad contracts at washed players. This guy is on the books another 2 yrs.
Crane needs to institute a company policy that prohibits signing free agents in their 30s longer than 2 years.
They better REALLY upgrade the farm system. Enough of these team rules and it might as well just be "No free agents" and then year after year of $100M payrolls and 80 win seasons.
If you refuse long-term contracts, you cut out the stars in their prime. That leaves you with aging former stars (how's that working for us?) and never-was-good cheap guys like Rodgers. At least if you gave Bregman a big contract he would have likely produced for 3-4 years more before he too fell off the age 35 cliff. Instead we're spending $40m on aged 1B this season.
Agree, I didnt sarcasm good enough. Singleton was literally better last year than Walker this year. Ouch
Calm down, if he goes on a tear for 2 weeks his numbers go back in line with expectations. Demotion in the lineup warranted but it's early enough still for him to be ok.
I`m not giving up on Walker, but I am starting to think we do have a curse at 1B....................I mean come on. When he walks in the box, I think automatic out
