Yes and no.

It’s not about the quality of a single shooter we acquire. You can get away with 1 non-shooter, and your spacing will depend largely on the quality of your 3rd and 4th best shooters because those are the ones teams will cheat off.

If you have Giannis surrounded by JJJ, Brooks, JG and FVV teams are simply not going to pack the paint. They’ll double Giannis and try to recover. That’s when the offense is flowing.

The reason teams can pack the paint against us right now is because you can cheat off Amen to double Sengun and that extra crowded paint deters drives from Amen and Green > which means midrange jumpers are forced on everyone with one simple chess move.

A bigger thing is if Sengun can shoot, that’s a massive difference. Because it’s not just spacing but also the added benefit of Sengun taking the opponent rim protector out of the paint (the biggest obstacle). Amen learning to shoot takes half a wing defender out of the paint and that won’t be as impactful.

 

I’ll agree on one thing in that Sengun developing a 3 pt shot is much more consequential to this team than Amen developing one. The problem is I think the progress Amen made at shooting in one half year of starting would indicate to me that he is much more likely to develop an outside shot than Sengun, that regressed from every spot on the floor.

Every year it’s the same story — players use the Rockets for leverage and never actually come here. Bosh did it. Butler did it. LaMarcus Aldridge too. We hype up every offseason just to end up empty-handed.

At this point, I say blow it up. We didn’t land a franchise cornerstone in the draft. We’re stuck in NBA limbo — just good enough to flirt with the playoffs, but nowhere near good enough to make a real run.

Amen can’t shoot. Jabari can’t dribble. Jalen is wild. Sengun is soft. Reed won’t shoot. Cam Whitmore won’t pass. FVV is too small. Tari’s a perfect glue guy on a contender, but we’re not one.

Trade them all. Reset. Go all-in on chasing a true No. 1 pick — someone who can actually change the direction of this franchise. Because this? This isn’t it.

Every morning I wake up thinking how good Amen / Green / KD / Jabari / Sengun would be with Reed, Cam, Brooks or Tari, Adams off the bench. Ty Jerome in free agency

Giannis would cost to much most likely and take a good chunk of depth or draft capital

Booker would cost more than KD and also get stuck with a 60-70 mil extension or he could walk in FA 2027

KD is the next bridge in my option depending on cost
