Only way I see Jalen becoming that dog is to lock him in a gym all offseason with MJ, KG, LeBron and Kobe. Obviously that’s not happening, so what we’ll probably get is his new nail polish line coming soon to a department store near you.
Jalen’s work ethic is outstanding and I think he will improve once again. Jalen has a difficult time with contact because of his lack of strength, not lack of desire or “dog”. He also does not have any kind of mid game, no floater, no stop and pop and his handles are mediocre. I don’t think Jalen will ever be a superstar, because he has too many weaknesses in his game that have not been corrected even though he has put the time and effort into it. I do think in the right situation he can be a more effective scorer. It’s been said before, but he could be a very valuable 6th man, even for this team. The make up of this team and Ime’s lack of offensive acumen is also a detriment to Jalen. It is not an excuse, but it is a reality. I don’t think Jalen has a successful future on this team unless Ime has an epiphany and Stone gives him a more balanced roster.
Interesting! I also share some of your views, especially regarding his lack of strength and Ime's lack of a true offensive system to enhance his game. I think those are the major issues with him. I know he can score, I know he can playmake, rebound, etc. but the inconsistencies arise when his outside shot is not falling and he has to resort to driving to the basket. If the lanes are clogged and he doesnt have the strength of a 6'9, 220lb T- Mac, 6'6 215lb Kobe, etc. He is not going to force his way into the lane. To me, Jalen is a cross between, a smaller guard in JaMorant, Brunson, Haliburton and the bigger guards like Kobe, etc. He's 6'5 185lbs. Ive always said, he needs to gain muscle. And as he gain muscle, it will take his game to the next level.
He will NEVER be that guy, it is his personality, it isn't in him, he doesn't DIE to compete he is a front runner who backs down when challenged. He is not worth the number 2 pick - and should be moved, we need guys that if they aren't leaders are at least efficient. Jalen is neither a leader nor is he efficient.....gotta go... DD
Jalen work ethic is outstanding........... goes on to name a laundry list of things he hasn't improved on in his 4 years in the league. Makes sense.
It's the intangibles bro, didn't you hear, Jalen was taking double and tripple teams all throughout the playoffs and giving us open shots lol
The ridiculous thing is Cam did not play well last year, but still had better shooting than Jalen. Lol
Here's an analysis of Jalen's shooting since it's becoming relevant this summer who would fit around a non-shooter or a superstar. 3PT shooting is split into catch and shoot (3.3 attempts) or pull up jumpers (4.8 attempts). Last summer Jalen improved his overall 3PT% by 2.2%. If he does that again, he'll be in Damian Lillard career 3PT% territory. Let's break them down. CATCH AND SHOOT On catch and shoot he improved from 31.6% to 40.9% in one summer. That's practically unheard of. Aaron Holiday is the only better catch and shooter on the roster. Brooks is the same % on higher attempts. That's it. If, let's say, Giannis is kicking it out of double teams there's no one on this roster better at making those 3's than Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Aaron Holiday. Those are our 3 best spacers. Catch and shoot is how you burn teams that pack the paint. PULL UP The biggest problem in his shooting is that he has to take 5 pull up 3's and that's WAY too much. The absence of driving opportunities has made it so that he's 99% reliant on this pull-up jumper falling to have a big game. Jumpers are volatile, so his overall efficiency is volatile. It is insane that a guy who shot 33-34% from 3 the previous season and had a season going to the line 6+ times was then suddenly expected to take FIVE pull up 3's per game. Only the elite of the elite take 5 pull up 3's a game. Why on earth would he ever succeed at that? He was literally never a good shooter. Jalen and Fred took 633 attempts (2/3rds of all pull up attempts were taken by 2 players). The rest of the entire roster took 329 attempts - no one took a significant number. Jalen took 150 more attempts than Fred and made a slightly higher % (31.6% vs 31.5%). Which is to say, Jalen and Fred are really the only people that pull up and Jalen is already better than Fred at this. CONCLUSION You're an idiot if you think Jalen wouldn't be a killer playing next to Giannis. He won't see double teams anywhere near as often and he's burying 41% of catch and shoot opportunities before Giannis steps foot on the court. You won't need him to be taking 5 pull ups a game anymore to bail us out of a dead offense, that number will reduce dramatically because Giannis will be the go-to scorer. Around Giannis, if Jalen does not improve his shooting mechanics at all and takes 1 more catch and shoot attempt and 2 fewer pull up attempts he would average 37.2% on 8+ attempts. That's with no improvement whatsoever and not even taking into consideration that he will be open more than he's ever been in his career. lol do you even understand how perfect it is to have a guy shooting 37% on EIGHT attempts, who is a good defender, plays every game and can crush teams in transition with Giannis? And that's before whatever improvements he's going to make from this summer and his playoff experience? I'm starting to really warm up to the Giannis idea. I think it would be excellent for Jalen's career if he's still here after the trade.
So it’s a ‘Jalen will be a great role player for the Rockets’ thread now. Got it. Kidding aside, I don’t understand this obsession with keeping Jalen on the Rockets from guys who claim to love him so much. Even if you find some sort of fit he will be shoehorned into a really limited role and it might be what puts the final nail in the coffin for his ceiling. Same with Amen - what is his role in this team with Giannis? Ignore this Amen is untouchable talk, and he’s the most awkward fit next to Giannis actually. And rest assured if we fall short these guys are getting shipped out or benched one by one. The clock starts ticking the moment you get Giannis - and you don’t get Giannis and ride it out with a Fred and Jalen backcourt, that’s like buying a Ferrari and then swapping out its engine with an old one from a 92 Civic.
