Not really, FVV is really stupid for any contender right now, they could get a cheaper version on the market.

    Hell naw to this trade!
Thats $90M+ tied up with 2 players through 2027-28....Jrue Holiday definitely regressed this season. In my opinion, Jalen Brown is not worth $60M per year...let's not bail out the Celtics financial troubles.
    My counter:
    Porzingis/Derrick White/Pritchard for
    Green/Reed/#10 pick
We'll get an expiring contract in Porzingis.
Pritchard is a plug in now player to fill our backup pg position
Derrick White is the perfect replacement for Jalen Green.
The Celtics get young assets in return.
Our core will stay in tact and have Porzingis contract/draft capital to maybe make another move before the trade deadline.
Of course, this is hypothetical if we don't go after Giannis or KD.

Unless they're looking for that cap relief. Or unless FVV's cap is re-structured before trading him (which might mess with the CBA of all this, not sure).

Boston wants to dump salary not re-build. This trade would not meet their goals and Boston is a 2nd apron team that can’t combine contracts going out in a trade.

on the podcast, Bill also said this was a last resort and he hated the idea of Jaylen Brown leaving.
Good as he is, Boston overvalues him, and they acknowledged that Holiday is damaged goods with his performance this year at his salary.

No one on Twitter watches the Rockets and only knows the names Brown, Holiday and Van Vleet in the trade, so the poll results are predictable.

We don't even know what Van Vleet's new salary will be; are they expecting he'll agree to a sign-and-trade?

    Lots of holes.

I wouldn’t do that trade unless you swap Holiday for White and even then we’d be giving up a lot considering Brown has a bum knee. If he has to have surgery a scope for a meniscus isn’t/shouldn’t be super serious but it still makes me nervous as hell.

Here’s how much Brown is due over the next 4 years.

    2026: $53 million
    2027: $57 million
    2028: $61million
    2029: $65 million

For that much money I want a bonafide superstar that can carry a team on his back. I don’t think Jaylen Brown is that guy. The fact that the Celtics are open to moving him should prove that.

Dumping salary is the same as rebuild.....we probably do not see it but Brown has been their 2nd best player and sometimes Number 1.....

What if you dump your temporary best player when your other player is coming back from a career threatening injury.....

They are forked so in this case they could actually get a Top 3 pick for Brown........wasn't Brown Finals MVP not long ago?

I would get on the phone with Dallas or San Antonio........see if they want Brown for Flagg or Harper....stat.

Find a third team to get this done.

Or someone said Mathurin and Myles Turner for Jaylen Brown.....

Boston cant aggregate players because of the 2nd apron, the league says no...

This trade is like when Memphis traded for Marcus Smart and ended up with a lemon lol. If Celtics trade Jaylen Brown they know its because he is overrated, injured or both.

I always thought that was a weird restriction because it makes it harder to get out of the second apron.

Lmao they rather buy out Porzingis and Holiday and even Derrick White before they sell out Jaylen Brown......

Also they might not do anything because Jayson Tatum might not be the same coming back.....you have to consider that for a moment.

If the team exercised the option - I can think of any number of teams that would absolutely jump at the chance to get off bad contracts for a year of overpaid Vanvleet. Of course you gotta take back bad contracts at more years and go into the tax, so not going to happen.

I'm not sure if this would be allowed but the main appeal of trading for FVV is that after the trade you can decline the P.O. to renegotiate at a lower number or just straight up get 40M off the books. On the podcast, they were talking about this trade as taking a 2020 Warriors type gap year while Tatum recovers from his Achilles surgery. I think it's a pretty good trade all around.

Hey I'm not Bima, but as a second apron team, I don't think the Celtics can aggregate players in a trade per league rules.

...but it could be two separate transactions so they can agree to the trade and just structure it as two separate trades to be sent to the league office at the same time. That being said - the salaries in that infographic don't really matchup - that's like $80 mil in salary in exchange for like $60mil - would certainly have to have a Dylan Brooks going somewhere(a 3rd team?) to make the numbers work or a sign and trade of some kind(but I thought that was not permisable as a 2nd apron team).

So the Rockets tanked for 2 years so the Celtics didn't have to. Give me a break.

I like this alot. Except I would keep Reed and send Cam. Ultimately this would be Derrick White for Jalen and that is a trade I would take all day long. But the Celts would never consider it. If Brown is someone who isn't worth the contract then White is someone who exceeds their contract. At least that's what his reputation is among the fans.
