Whatever. It might be a sweetheart deal, but it's a one-off. Your thread title uses the plural like there is a program to distribute reparations to J6ers or something (which, sadly, would be totally credible with this administration). This settlement doesn't imply anything about the insurrection. This is well short of Trump promising to pardon J6ers, and then being elected despite or because of that promise, and then going through with it. A $5 million settlement in one case is nothing compared to that. Its nothing compared to our decision to elect Trump despite him inciting the J6 riot and trying to steal the election at the certification. Our problems are so much bigger than this settlement that it hardly deserves a mention.

LOL do you want to bet on this? You think this corrupt deal by the Trump Admin is a one-off? Are you serious? Did you just type that?

Cmon man. This got settled because of who is currently in charge and nothing more. If this was a Harris admin, the suit would go forward and the Babbit family wouldn't get s***.

I won't consider justice served until Michael Byrd is charged and tried for Babbitt's murder. Venue would have to be moved due to the proven bias of the DC jury pool.

Byrd was a historical underperformer and should have been fired in 2019 for leaving his loaded gun in the bathroom at the Capitol Visitors Center. Probably a case of black privilege. So this guy was already a problem. Then he panicked and overreacted on J6 and murdered a peaceful Air Force veteran.

She was a 5’2 and 110 pound woman.

You’re pathetic if you would have shot her.

Just like the idiot cop was.

Thousands of LEO interactions with rioters that day, some actually violent, and this moron is the only one to start blasting.

I'm not saying otherwise. I'm saying it isn't accompanied by any meta-meaning. Government does not say her death was wrongful in the settlement. I'm sure they were more inclined to settle because Trump is president. It'd potentially be bad optics for him in Magaland if he calls her a hero and then turns around and fights her suit to the end. If they did want to lend some comfort to terrorists, they could have paid the $30 million the suit was asking for, but they negotiated it down to $5 million. And, if Harris was president, the optics would put pressure the other way. I'm not saying it isn't political. I'm saying its not important. Or it's only important as a footnote to the more important event -- voters deciding that trying to overturn an election wasn't disqualifying.

I thought this thread would be about Trump going through with the compensation fund he floated a couple months ago: Trump floats possibility of compensation for Jan. 6 rioters - POLITICO. When he does that, aside from the money (and who cares about that when we're trillions in debt, amirite), it will be the government officially saying that not only should they be forgiven their crimes (as he did with the pardons) but that we did them wrong. This settlement doesn't do that. But the compensation fund will do that.
