I presume you are talking about Donovan. He has started 26 games at 2B, 10 in LF, 6 at SS, and 1 at DH. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/donovbr01.shtml
I think you move altuve back to second, start dezenzo and Cam. If we still suck at offense at the deadline, you trade Framber and start making plans for 26 and beyond. If either one of Dezenzo or Cam doesn’t work out, we are in a world of hurt position player wise. We can’t bench Altuve can we?
We could bench Altuve but I think that’s more of a May 26 conversation. You figure anyone can have a bad year. in the meantime you can give him more “rest” days.
That’s why I think Lux and Donovan are such great targets. Both guys can play 2B or LF, so can be paired with Altuve to hide him defensively. But also, Altuve needs more days off and to be moved down in the lineup.
He needs to hit 3rd when Yordan comes back. That’s the least disrespectful to him solution that goes with numbers (the book says 3rd hitter should be your 5th best). if that doesn’t work 6th or 7th would be my choice.
He might suck defensively there (I have no idea and didn’t look it up) but Johnathan Aranda has played some 2B (and even some 3B) for the Rays. Hitting .327/.398/.566 against righties this season. I could live with mediocre defense for a good lefty bat at this point, especially at 2B. Not sure what it would take but the Rays usually aren’t opposed to trading players even under control.
I do believe yall've missed the window for a Jon Aranda trade, and he can't play anywhere but 1B right? Your 2B/3B fantasy s!!t is nogonnahappen He's not getting into arbitration until 2027 and is not a FA until 2030 Why would Tampa trade him now?
they wouldn’t. All this talk about getting a 2b is nonsense. Unless you are going to bench Altuve or trade Alvarez, Altuve needs to be the starting 2nd baseman. Altuve may be the greatest Astro of all-time or at least the favorite Astro of all-time. The team will never trade him, release him or bench him. Cam and Dezenzo need to start every game and they are our LF and RF guys. Alvarez is our DH and Altuve is our 2nd baseman. It was a stupid experiment that didn’t work out. Altuve can DH until Alvarez gets back so they can keep pretending that Rodgers is going to find a magic bean or something.
Rodgers was worth a shot, but he is who we kinda thought he was. Not every top-5 HS draft pick pans out.
They traded Paredes last year with 3.5 years left of control. They’ve made many trades over the years where the player had multiple years left of control. Like I said, his defense might be terrible at 2B - I haven’t watched him enough to know and probably not enough data out there to even find out. He’s played 23 out of his 118 games there though so yes he technically “can play there”.
We’ve got to get another bat. If they want to move Altuve back to 2B and trade for an OF, that’s fine but this team’s pitching is too damn good to waste a chance at being a true contender by continuing to run out these mediocre lineups.
The chances of a Skenes trade to the Astros are more likely than Altuve moving back to 2b. He's an OF and like it or not we must just deal.
Yeah it might be, what does this tell you: 2022: 79 innings 2023: 23 innings 2024: 39 innings 2025: zero innings The dude's like 6'1, 220, you think that's a 2Bman?
Astros are scoring around 4.5 per game in May. Not far off from the 2022 WS pace. The offense has not been the same issue as it was early. Expect to get Yordan back and playing everyday soon. If you have Dezenzo and Cam in the game every night, Altuve at second. I think you have a perfectly reasonable offense.
But they got back Christopher Morel, who was the same age and also had many years of control. Morel hit 16 & then 26 bombs his first two years, in a fairly small sample size. They saw him as a valuable piece. I'm not sure the Astros have anyone like that to offer?
Paredes got that same build and look at him lol. You’re right though he’s probably bad there and doesn’t make sense to overpay for a bad 2B when you’re two best starters are ground ball pitchers.
Well he’s definitely not going back to 2B to get Dezenzo in the lineup everyday like some of these other posters are talking about.
You talk in absolutes too often. It’s probably unlikely Altuve gets moved back to 2B full time but he’s played 1/4 of his games there this season, including last night. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that the Astros re-assess their roster along with their prospects and the trade market and come to the conclusion that the best place for Altuve the rest of this season is at 2B most days.
