You've said some silly things on this forum, but this might be the silliest. Brown is an "albatross" contract? Give me a damn break. Brown has been the second best player on a team that has made the ECF six times, conference finals twice, won a finals, AND was finals MVP. In the last 50 games without Tatum, he's averaged 27/7/4 on a .59 TS%. Please stop saying dumb things.
With the 2nd apron rules it’s gonna be insanely hard to build a great team if you’re paying a supermax for a non superstar. Same issue as booker.
How about: Trade 1: #10 Pick, Jock Landale for Nic Claxton. Trade 2: Jalen Green, Future 1st for Dyson Daniels PG - FVV / Sheppard SG - Daniels / Brooks / Whitmore SF - Thompson / Eason PF - Sengun / Smith Jr ..C - Claxton / Adams Just went to level 10 on Defense and got a little more versatile on the offensive end.
If Jalen Green and future picks gets you Dyson Daniels, you do it yesterday. Jalen makes 33 million and Daniels ~8 soo. sign and trade with Fred, 25,26,27 million 3 years, Jalen/Cam All of the picks for Daniels and Trey. No idea if that blows up in our face in 2 years salary wise and what the cap looks like and all that.
You failed to get the ball over half court because the opposition ran a simple press and Jalen can't dribble. Fail.
Posted this in another thread, but I think it is actually feasible and would be great for the Rockets. Plus I get to piss off all the FVV,Green, and Sengun only fans. First trade: Houston in: Sabonis, Lavine, Sac 26 frp protected 1-2 Sac in: Sengun, Cam, FVV, Jock 2nd trade: Houston in: Giannis Bucks in: Jalen, #10, 27 phoenix pick, 29 Dallas pick, Rockets 30 frp Rockets lineup: Amen, Lavine, Giannis, Jabari, Sabonis Bench: Reed, Dillon, Tari, Adams re-signed or other journeyman big, MLE Meets all of what should be our off-season goals: Acquire Giannis, Better outside shooting, Dump FVV Be a championship contender Sacramento does it because they get Sengun and a project in Cam, Fred’s contract to be traded at deadline or to dump for cap space next year and an immediate 8M by dumping Jock. You might have to add greater protections to the 26 frp from Sac to get them to bite.
FVV + Eason + # 10 for Jaylen Brown Why Houston does it? Brown is a clear # 1 option and Boston is in a unique position where they need to save. Why Boston does it? They save money, get a young player in Eason and get a high draft pick Sign Adams Amen Thompson / Reed Sheppard Jalen Green/ Cam Whitmore Jaylen Brown /Dillon Brooks Jabari Smith Alperen Sengun /Steven Adams I love not blowing it up and giving mostly everyone one more season Especially without FVV bogging it up. You still keep the cupboard full to make a future move and your optionality remains strong. Jalen and Sengun being at 30 million are two contracts that are worth keeping for now. Sengun being underpaid to start his first big contract is going to be infinitely valuable with the new CBA, has to be a top 10 contract now. Jaylen is overpaid but I don’t think he’s an albatross and gives the rockets a real shot to be competitive while keeping most of their core. you could add Whitmore to the deal if Boston wants him added and maybe 1 more draft asset but they are in a unique position and Brown is definitely a bit overpaid
I’d definitely do this. I think Brown would thrive in a #1 role. I posted this elsewhere, but in the last 50 games without Tatum, Brown has averaged like 27/7/5. Pair him with Sengun and Amen and let’s go.
Number 1, Boston will never do this trade with just one pick. It would take at least 3. No. 2, if we extend Jabari and Tari, we will be in the 2nd Apron not to mention all the luxury taxes the Godfather would have to spend. Brown’s a no-go for me with that contract, it is an albatross.
I wouldn't quite call his contract an albatross, but I do personally think he's overpaid. I might consider it if the price was nearly free (Jalen + salary filler), I just don't want to be handing out assets for a soon-to-be-age-30 overpaid #2 option level guy. There's not a lot of daylight in value between him and Sengun or Amen, and he gets paid vastly more than they do. I think he'd make us a better team, but not a contender, and he's not young enough to have any remaining potential--he's a finished product.
I do agree that Boston wouldn't do it. I think It'd had to include Green to make sense for Boston. But I totally disagree that the contract is an "albatross." People are getting too carried away. Teams get crushed when they have multiple Supermax contracts - not just one. Brown, IMO, would absolutely thrive in a #1 role next to Sengun and Amen, who would complement him well. Then extend Bari. Amen / Brown / Brooks / Bari / Sengun is a team that both will be competitive for a long time and likely will remain under the second apron.
He's 28. "About to be 30" is a little exaggerated. Again, perhaps others are lower on him than I am, but I think the only reason he's a #2 is because that's his role in Boston. I've seen him excel when Tatum is out, and Ime would 100% make him the #1, at least throughout his current contract. I also think he'll age well - he can resign as a #2 value as Amen and Sengun hit their primes.
In the original proposal Jalen wasn’t going out. This is more feasible, but I’m not convinced that Brown is worth his massive contract. He now also has knee problems.
