The same people were saying how bad a mistake he was making for not taking Crane’s initial offer… and now the narrative has shifted to “he hated it here and was looking to leave!”. it’s all over the place no matter what the thread or what the subject. (Better at the other place now… there’s really only 3 posters here now that post every game/thread/topic… so not hard to see when people contradict themselves).
It’s why Crane emphasizes pitching. (Now a little bit more legit MLB hitting will go a long way for this team… but pitching health will be the sole determiner of whether they’re in the race all years or not.)
I’m not sure I totally agree with that. I think just like a good enough pitching staff can overcome a weak offense, a good enough lineup can overcome a weak pitching staff. But Houston does seem to have a competitive advantage on pitching development so they have been smart to focus on that.
GM, nothing better than beating the rungers in that kind of fashion. Makes Monday slightly less difficult.
Preseason I predicted Framber to be good, Hunter brown to be cy young, and said we’d be really good bc we knew for a fact that 6 of the 9 hitters were dependable to be average to awesome (Alvarez, Altuve, Walker, Diaz, Pena, Paredes). 4 of the 6, all with good to great offensive track records, have sucked **** through a straw.
Nothing is for certain, but he has in the past had extended periods of poor performance and bounced back. He also started this season very well before slumping. In the last few years, he has worn down and also has had some performance issues with COVID and the scandal. So - I wonder if the switch to the outfield is playing a part in this as well.
That was quite satisfying. The emotional roller coaster the Astros put Arlington fans through. High hopes for the no hitter....shattered with a HR....to losing the lead and game a couple innings later....crazy.
Not when the Red Sox offered him 3/120 with player opt outs after each season. The Red Sox had the money laying around - and that is why the contract is short term. The Astros and Cubs and Tigers were all in on him and he really did not want to go to Detroit - so it was Houston or Chicago until the Red Sox stepped up. I still maintain that Alex Bregman has a better than 50% chance of being a Hall of Famer, he is basically a modern Graig Nettles, but in an era where WAR and overall play means more to voters than raw numbers.
Since Bregman is being brought up....my biggest beef has nothing to do with the fact we could not/did re-sign him, it's that there were issues with his swing our batting coaches failed to diagnose that the Red Sox coaches did. It's not that we lost Bregman, it's that it seems we failed to unlock the best of him when we had him. Fire Cintron...Paredes bailed us out, but the approach and strategy at the plate this entire series was pretty awful, especially against Leiter. Also...f*** Dave Raymond, he was ass when he did radio here, and he is a whiny, hating prick on the Rangers broadcast. He has said some pretty bs stuff about the Astros for years.
I also don't think anyone would've believed that the bullpen would be the greatest strength of the team.
The bullpen, Meyers, Pena, Paredes, Hunter Brown…yeah some stuff has definitely gone better than expected.
Yeah, I don’t feel great about a guy who has been out forever and has lost significant velocity. Even if he ends up being good, you’re going to tell me you believe in his ability to stay healthy? I think Snake said it best about Gordon…he looks like a Brandon Bielak type.
