You know what else saves the bullpen? Everyone in the bullpen being awesome. When you can pretty much pick names from a hat for any situation at any time and count on quality you don’t have to overuse anyone. Whitley should be back any day. That would leave a bullpen of: Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Ort, Dubin, Whitley The worst era in that group is Ort at 2.08. The worst FIP is Ort at 3.6 and the second worst FIP is Hader at 2.56. you can pretty much do anything either that group for 4 or 5 innings at a time without overusing them, as long as you are getting 6 from Brown and Framber. Most weeks have 6 games in them. Assume brown and Framber give you 6 and the other 4 games split at 4 or 5 innings for the starters. That’s a super pessimistic assumption. That still leaves 7 guys sharing 24 innings. That’s 3.5 innings each for those guys. That’s not a big deal at all.
I bet he would have if we did 8/200. He wanted 200 from somebody, anybody, and never got it. Not saying we should have given it to him but if we’d have met his price he would have stayed, imo.

Another unexpected outstanding victory. The 4 game series vs Seattle looms large. Need to take 3 of 4 to make up for the dumbassedness of Espada the first time we played them, which should have been a sweep.
No, he wouldn’t have taken that 3 year deal with us because he felt he deserved to be paid and we weren’t giving him what he wanted. Also, it’s not like we would have then given in after this season and paid him regardless of how he performs - decent chance Boston does. He absolutely would have stayed here if we met his demands - even if another team matched it. Obviously that was never going to happen.
Your first sentence. He took a deal from Boston that he wouldn't have taken from Houston. That kinda confirms what I was saying. I guess if we offered 200 he would’ve taken it since no one else would’ve offered that.
Because he felt slighted by us. And if you were to take a “prove it type deal”, would you take one from a team that refuses to give out big contracts or a team that would? Pretty much common sense. He’d be back in the same situation next year if he took that deal with us. If we both offered him 8/200, IMO he would have stayed here over going to Boston.
I agree with that. He was biased toward leaving houston I think but willing to stay. Springer was always going to leave no matter what. Correa was biased to stay but willing to leave and we just never got close.
The only way we were gonna get him was if we were top bidder, which is kinda cold (or at least odd) considering the Astros were his only team for all 9 years of his career. If we offered him 200, we would’ve been the top bidder by 30 million. Perhaps you’re right and he would’ve stayed then.
The Stros have a history of letting guys go when it comes time to being paid. Crane doesn't give out LTC's.
I actually thought 6-156 was a great offer. I’m surprised boston offered what they did. He’s a damn good player, no doubt. Still, I thought the Astros offer was really strong for a .260/24 homer guy who stopped working counts. Obviously, he’s playing better with Boston too.
The biggest issue is Yordan Alvarez, supposedly one of the 10 best hitters in baseball, giving us nothing so far this year. There is not much room for error as Altuve slows down and the lineup is downgraded with the loss of Tucker and Bregman.

I think if anyone had said that at the 1/3 mark of the season that Houston’s starting C, 1B, 2B, LF, and DH would have a COMBINED -0.7 fwar but Houston would be over .500, no one would have believed either part of that.
