Looks like DeShawn Stevenson is the odd man out in the Magic SG rotation. I dont know a whole lot about his game but what are everyone's thoughts about him? Is he someone we should think about adding to give us a servicable backup SG? He probably could be had for a 2nd round pick. Sura will be out until December and it looks like Gaines is a LONG way from being a rotational player. It might be nice to have a backup SG to give JJ/Tmac some rest time.

Bogans wins battle to back up Mobley
    By Brian Schmitz
    Sentinel Staff Writer
    October 29, 2004

Keith Bogans is safe and DeShawn Stevenson appears to be the odd-guard out as the Orlando Magic huddled Thursday to finalize their opening-night roster.

The Magic are looking to trade Stevenson, a fourth-year guard who was acquired from the Utah Jazz last season for Gordan Giricek. While Stevenson has a movable contract -- $8.5 million over three years -- the Magic would rather take back draft picks instead of players. They have 15 guaranteed contracts, counting Stevenson's.

"I know things happen in the NBA. I'll have to see," Stevenson said. "Right now, I don't want to bring any negativity to the team."

Bogans won the battle over Stevenson to back up Cuttino Mobley at shooting guard. But league sources told the Sentinel on Thursday that Bogans might consider moving on to another team after the season if he receives little playing time behind Mobley. Mobley has ranked No. 2 in the NBA in average minutes played per game the past two seasons.

No. Don't need another headcase like EG here.

No, maybe not a headcase like EG, but a headcase like Mad Max would be nice. What's the knock on Stevenson? Isn't it that he's a poor shooter? Personally I'd be open to looking into it because we're really hurting for depth.

IF they're looking for draft picks for him, I'd pass. I'd rather take the crapshoot draft over crapping out on Stevenson...he's not what we need on this team. If he can't even get playing time on a team that runs, which is probably his only strength, we don't need him on this half-court team.

FYI, he can't be traded until December 15th. He just signed a 3yr 8.5M contract with Orlando in over the Summer.

Why would we want to help Orlando?

The Rockets don't have picks to send them. I would be very angry if CD throws away another 1st round pick.

well, actually this year it wouldn´t hurt to trade away our first round pick, since the upcomming draft seems to be pretty weak. it would be even better to trade our pick along with a bad contract.... like the glen rice trade last year....

i don't know, considering that the recent drafts are more about raw potential and that we are becoming a contending team, young cocky blood isn't really what we need for a while. I'd rather have a decent vet who won't crack up in the playoffs.

I dont think ANYONE is going to send Orlando a 1st rounder for Stevenson. It would be a SECOND rounder. Those are as much a crap shoot as anything.

I would be angry too if we sent them a 1st rounder! ;)
