I wish they would send Smith down so he can get regular work. Send him down and bring him up once he's started destroying PCL pitching for a month. Just stick with Dezenzo and Rodgers for a while until you have enough to make a decision about Rodgers.
Way too much swing and miss in Smith’s profile so far. Really poor exit velocity too. I’m all for giving him playing time but you can’t hamstring the top of the lineup like that. Dezenzo actually has similar strengths and weaknesses but he’s making better contact. And Altuve may benefit from a different spot in the lineup.
The one thing I want for Smith right now is consistent playing time. If it is not going to be in the majors then I'd like to see him playing every day in the minors (at least for a while).
Your fan bias is showing. Yuli's OPS+ in even seasons as an Astro: 86,105, 77, 85 I would argue that ANY 1b must have an OPS+ of at least 110 and probably 125 or better simply because of the position they play. Odd seasons: 121, 126, 131
Wesneski out for the year, Gusto turning back into a pumpkin, unimpressive start by Gordon/ I wouldn’t think so. But when Arrighetti gets back if other guys are going ok, maybe.
Smith's swing and miss is just part of the growing pains that the Astros decided will be at the MLB level instead of AA. The Astros would benefit from Altuve in a different spot in the lineup. Like between Dezenzo and Meyers. 7th if Rodgers or Dubon is playing. 8th if he is playing 2b.
Yes everyone knows he was better in the odd years. Isn’t “2020” an even number? and are you counting 2016 too? Yuli was great
Yeah, this is completely without context. He played in 36 games and it was his first taste of MLB pitching in 2016. Don’t think you can make much of the 2020 season, which was also shortened, and was an odd season for all with the Covid impact. Even Altuve sucked that year. He had a really good 4 year run before his age caught up to him in 2022.
Yes, he’s counting the 2016 season (played 36 games in his first MLB action), 2020 (shortened Covid season that had a lot of oddities), and 2022 (age caught up with him and was never good again).
Exactly my point. And If he was making a case for Gurriel, instead of against him, those 2 years (2016 and 2020) naturally would’ve been omitted. Maybe even 2022 as well.
I don’t know but I will say this: if McCullers ever goes on the IL again, I think the odds of him ever pitching in MLB again are <50%.
I agree. The Astros need more alignment between their manager and the larger goals of the organization.
And yet this phucktard of a manager has decided that this all important series vs Texas we can afford to move Framber from his normal rest Sunday start to a Monday start vs Tampa instead.
Yuli had 550+ PAs in 5 different seasons as the starting 1b. He had over 18 HR once He had over 85 RBI once He was a perfectly good 5th or 6th best hitter on a team. Having star hitters at SS and CF prevented his limited run production from being an issue which was my original point. He had the bat of a solid 2b or 3b, not a 1b. At least not on a typical contender.
