He was on my radar with how well he played in the complex leagues, especially since he officially signed just days before the DSL season. He's almost the opposite of Sullivan. Sullivan swings less than any qualified major leaguer, while Nunez would be in the top 15. The fact that he is carrying a healthy walk rate might indicate that he's pretty good at identifying balls and strikes, but I'm worried the contact piece will sink him at higher levels and that he won't have the power to carry higher walk rates. Like Sullivan, his approach is working right now, so it's hard to read too much into it. If he's a competent MIF with a lefty stick, he can probably get away with being a below average hitter and still contribute to a team.

I would add Gomez to this list.

I’d hold onto all our guys with cy young ceilings. There 2 or 3 in the org you can say that about. if we like a guy internally and think he’s a MOR guy then let’s go ahead and trade away those guys at the big league level with 4 or 5 years of control instead. So, I guess that’s the argument for moving or Arrighetti rather than a guy you project to be that good in the minors- you just will get more for the guys that are already doing it at the big league level.

The only issue I see with this is that every team only gets 4 bench spots, and 1 needs to be a catcher, so platoons need to be limited.

If a team has nearly everyday starters at all other positions this is an excellent option.

With all the RH hitting CF options this team has, at least Melton fits the areas lacking.

Another multi-homer game for Shay Whitcomb:

Does the FCL team just not have any pitchers, because Ethan Wagner and Anthony Huezo both pitched today.

Darwin De Leon had two doubles, one of which drove in a run.

They had a double header on Tuesday where Reylin Perez, Hector Salas, and Yosweld Vasquez all pitched, with that being Salas' 2nd pitching appearance. Roiner Quintana has pitched in 2 games this season as well. Seems odd, especially since yesterday was an off day. Meanwhile, there are 7 pitchers on the FCL roster who haven't pitched this season, including draftees from last year Parker Smith, Dylan Howard, and Ryan Verdugo.

    Astros made a signing yesterday:

C Hayden Travinski signed and was assigned to the FCL squad. This will be his first foray into affiliated minor league baseball.

Travinski spent 5 years at LSU; last year, he slashed .271/.381/.542 with 16 home runs and 53 RBI. After going undrafted, he went to independent ball and played 20 games with the Missoula Paddleheads in the Pioneer League, slashing .224/.268/.342 with 2 home runs and 14 RBI.

Have to wonder what 20 games with the Missoula Paddleheads could possibly convince you of with those numbers LOL

Ethan Wagner is currently 3-3 in the FCL game and he just hit his first home run as a pro.

    Last 3 games he’s 7-11 with a 2B, a HR, a BB, a SB, and only 1 k.

The number of players on the IL in the minors is insane to me. Corpus has 11 dudes on the IL, Fayetteville has 13. Of the 177 players on Houston’s stateside minor league rosters, 34 on the IL. 6 of Houston’s top 30 prospects are on the IL.

FCL squad used an 8-run 3rd to beat the Marlins 9-5. Ethan Wagner's three-run blast was a big part of that outburst. Nehomar Ochoa had a two-run single in that big 3rd inning.

Jagger Beck got knocked around a bit after he came in but settled down to throw 4.2 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out six to record his first win as a pro.
