Well - of course. This is a common thing throughout history - whenever there is an authoritarian movement, be it left or right - there are a number of people that have very high ambitions and poor ethics that will attach themselves to the movement in an attempt to grift and improve their status and financial position. We saw it with the National Socialist Party in Germany, many grifters joined the party because they could move up and advance by simply doing whatever the top of the party dictated, people that otherwise would not move up. It happened with the Bolsheviks in Russia, where many mediocre men were willing to compromise their ethics and joined the Communist Party for the ability to grift and move up socially. Same in Italy and the Fascists and the oligarchs in Russia under Putin. These people around Trump did not get their positions because of their qualifications or abilities - they did because of their loyalty to the President. Trump learned in his first term that he shouldn't assume loyalty - of his misdeeds will be more likely to be exposed.
Not only their loyalty, but that they are willing to lie, cheat, or steal to get what they want, be it money, power, or both, and that they will defend anything Trump does, illegal or not.
