Garland is a guy I've been thinking about too. I think the Cavs are a good trade partner for us, they have a number of players we might want, and we have the dawgs they need. I would try to structure a deal for Garland to get them out of the 2nd apron immediately. The two main possibilities I see are a Jalen-centered deal or a Brooks-centered deal going back to the Cavs. Is it possible for us to decline FVV's option, then sign-and-trade him? Or are we locked in on re-sign him or let him walk into UFA? That could be another thing I could see happening if it's allowed.
A thought exercise thread, but the price being offered for Bailey is way over pay. In a 2022 NBA draft, Tari is better than the 7-8 guys drafted before him. Jalen a #2, Bari a #3. Are peeps seriously offering two of a #2/#3/Tari, for an unknown #3? Bailey might turn into something, but he also could bust. He also has to be developed. And people are offering guys who gained some NBA experience already which saves the receiving team time from growing the incoming Rockets players. I might not even offer that for Harper or Cooper. High prospects, also highly unproven. Flagg is good but he's below Zion/Bron's prospect tier. He might end up being better than our recent crop of top 5s, but giving up two of your top 5 for 1 top 5, is still risky. Our guys are no way perfect, but if we're throwing them in deals have to get something concrete back of more lotto tickets.
If we take FVV’s team option, we can(are) trading him. If we extend him with more guaranteed years we are intending to keep him. Unfortunately, I think we intend to keep him. Garland is to close to a parallel trade for Jalen. Whether we think so or not, it doesn’t matter. Ime and Stone love Green, because of effort. Ime loves effort and it would have to be in a gangbuster trade to move off of him. Both Ime and Stone believe in Green’s potential and are in no hurry to get rid of a 22 year old guy with his potential. And yes, he has potential. You don’t have the number of mvp type games before the age of 23, without potential. I’m no huge fan of Green and want him and FVV out of here, but Ime won’t allow it, unless it’s for a two-way star. Garland would be an excellent fit, but that’s my opinion, not one that counts.
Well ESPN is reporting that San Antonio is 99.9% taking Harper. It never made sense to not pick him. It's all a bunch of smoke now but it was interesting that Rafael Barlowe (connected) was reporting they could pass to immediately having Givony say they are taking him. They aren't trading him for Giannis. I personally wouldn't either, no need to rush Wemby's timeline when you could pair him with another potential franchise level player at a rookie scale deal and control his contract for 8 years. Rockets should be in the driver's seat for Giannis again. It's time to go get a star and try to compete for championships for a 3 year window.
Now that I think about it with the dust having settled, Harper + Castle + Fox is a f*cking disaster from a team composition standpoint They might be thinking that way right now, but either better heads will prevail, or circumstances will force a change
Sexton. He can give you 17 points in 24 minutes off the bench for $19 million without demanding over 12 shots. A bargain in today's ball. 9 man rotation: Sengun/Aquaman/ Jabari Jabari/Sengun/Amen Brooks/Eason/Amen Green/ Sexton/Reed Amen/Reed/Sexton Just kidding. FVv will be back with all the minutes
It would never happen with Ime as head coach, but pick up the team option of FVV and trade him and #10 for Sexton (expiring) and John Collins (expiring). That would give you the flexibility to trade Jalen and picks for another upgrade or even Sengun and picks for Giannis. Amen/Reed Jalen/Sexton Giannis/Dillon/Cam Collins/Tari Jabari/Giannis/Collins Center by committee That will leave 3 Legitimate shooters on the court at all times and 4 when Amen is off the floor. Or Amen/Reed Sexton/trade Jabari/Dillon/Tari Collins/Sengun/Jabari Sengun/Adams/Jabari Either scenario gives us a legit title contender.
Need someone that fits around Reed/Jabari/Sengun/Amen. So Strus would be a better target. Perfect fit there IMO. Or Derrick White. Houston Out: Jalen Green - 10th Overall Pick - Dillon Brooks Houston In: Max Strus - Cam Johnson - Nic Claxton Cleveland Out: Max Strus - Darius Garland Cleveland In: Dillon Brooks - Jalen Green - 10th Overall Nets Out: Cam Johnson - Nic Claxton Nets In: Darius Garland
The idea that NBA media "knows" than SA is taking Harper #2 , and is not entertaining any trade etc..... Means that I will betting against it happening . Everyone was SURE Jabari was going to ORL , even though looking at it objectively Paolo looked like a #1 with his scoring upside , hell even chet had a chance.
Yeah I can't even front, i genuinely was like "are they really not seeing it with this kid, he looks like the clear #1 and they're saying we're getting him at 3?" I could've seen the argument for Chet in retrospect, at the time I genuinely thought he looked like the most fragile big man I've ever seen, but I could maybe have bought him as #1 on the unicorn ****. I was gutted when we got Bari, though I do root for him now.
Jalen to Chicago for Lonzo, Kevin Huerter, and pick 12. Rockets pick Cedric Coward and either Flemming or Lendeborg.
Yeah sure let’s go after rookies that won’t play instead of trading for something that gets us into contention next year. We have been re-building for 4 years, have an excellent core, and a lot of trade assets. The last this team needs is another TWO mediocre picks to Ime seat at the long end of the bench.
Who would you say realistically puts the rockets into legit title contention? Except for jokic if he asks out.
My first target would be Coby White. He’s mister do-it-all on offense AND defense for the Bulls. But most of all he’s their closer in the 4th quarter. My second option would be Quinten Grimes through a SnT. He’s had a good year in Philly and proved he can take on a bigger role.
Those guys don’t move the needle at all, they’re not really much better than jalen. Grimes isn’t better, white was last year but who knows how real that is.
And if options 1 and 2 don’t work, go to plan C : trade #10 and Cam for Washington’s #6 and #18 and draft Kon and Flemmings.
